Christ the King Catholic Secondary School is back on top.
The Georgetown high school is once again the top Relay for Life fundraiser out of all schools across Canada.
The 12-hour event held earlier this month at the school property on Guelph Street was CtK's largest ever, raising $200,400 for the Canadian Cancer Society. More than 700 students took part, with 14 cancer survivors joining them to walk in solidarity.
Christ the King was also Canada’s top fundraiser in 2023, when its participants brought in $146,702.
“It has become something the students look forward to and it gets more popular and they get more excited about it every year,” said Christ the King teacher Meaghan O’Brien.
The local youths come up with new ways to raise money, and this year they held a car wash for the first time.
A committee of 20 students organized the 2024/25 events, beginning their planning in October.
While the teens' efforts go a long way, O’Brien said the community plays a big part in the event’s success as well.
“The local businesses are always very generous with donations,” O’Brien said.
