-Where would I begin? 💞 😉
-My memories are not of him being a ref or an ump but as my Uncle Gerry..<3 Most always thought him and Dad were Brothers.
-As a child I recall him being so kind and loving to me.....as an adult I look back to his strong dedication to anything he was involved in....in life he gave it his all. ❤️
-Great Guy!!! 110% at Everything he got involved in. And he was all about the Kids in his community. He is missed. And he is remembered fondly.
-A Great Man
- Pretty sure some of you have "stories" lol
-I know they do!! Lol
-My old man used to say. Hated him on the ice. Never find a better guy off the ice
- Having Jerry umpiring while I was playing back catcher for years
- He was a great man and was loved and respected by many💖
-Great guy, even though he did throw me out of a few ball games through the years ! :)
- I was told "you get no special calls" when I gave him the gears behind our plate! 😂
-He threw me out of a few hockey games as well.
- I suspect it was well warranted Jim.
- Probably deserved to be thrown out. 😊😂
-Perky threw me out more times than you did from behind the plate, my friend !! :)
-Ha Ha over all those years of fastball, I can count on one hand the times you got on base.
-Before I ever saw him reffing or umping, I remember watching him play ball with my dad, and my uncle, and the Bakelite gang.
-He was a kind gentle man. A fixture at the Arena and Park.
-My dad always talks about how he threw him out of a ball game and then dad went to the car and changed his clothes...came back to the game and stood behind the bleachers. Perky stopped the game and told dad that he had told him to go home and would not start the game again until he went home...lol
-Boy that dose not sound like your dad at all 🤔
-Miss you Perk we had some awesome times good, bad and indifferent, RIP you will never be forgotten
-Very good man
-Great ref always fair - ok boys your even move it or go to the box - always fair
-Did many games with Perk. He use to say," Don't know why they thought the ref's decided the game. Never saw a ref score a goal in my life". LOL....
-I can hear him saying that!! 😂
-I recall after his stroke, I and a few of his men took over some of his hockey duties, assigned refs, scheduled and kept track of all tri County games, players & game sheets (he was convenor) !! A huge task! They was some good friends who stepped up when needed!!
-Remember my dad and Perky always kabitzing and laughing at the arena...Buzz and Perky, a couple of characters.
-I recall those years & the ref association. .... they had so much fun!!
-Two minutes for tripping!!!
-Uncle Gerry and Uncle Bud always instigated the cousins to get rowdy then standing back innocently when the Moms yelled at us! Made family reunions fun!!
-Was a great part of growing up in Georgetown.
-He was a true role model for all the up and coming referees and umpires during his time. He was a man of great integrity.
-Great man would stop and talk to you anytime about Sports
-I loved it when he ump'd our ball games ! Also the talks after the game awesome guy !
-Oh the memories this pic brings up of great times in the Georgetown Referees Association.
-I remember watching a ball game in the Glen and hearing him say "anymore from you and you'll be watching the game from the bridge" priceless 🤣
-that's hilarious
-And don't forget Earl Cuthbert calling the games over the PA system from that little booth behind the the screen!
-So many great memories and laughs!
-Loved “Perk” behind the plate, always knew what his call was. He was a “pitchers umpire”, in my case anyway. Always had great conversation after the game. Disrespect him and you did not have a place in his game. He was one of a kind and I will always remember the good times on and off the ball diamond with “Perk”. #RESPECT
-He use to Ref all my Saturday morning hockey games, what a great person he was, and fair.
-I Was 7 Playing hockey ,when the skate tips were required, Which Mine Were Too Old ... Mr, Perkins PutTape On Them And Let Me Play knowing Full Well It Was Going To Come Off On The Ice.....Then P/U The Tape& Closed His Eyes...🏒🏒🥅
- Perk = Georgetown LEGEND!!

-Perky was a class act!
-LOL ya him and Crow bar
-Perky & Bud umpired all my Royalettes home games miss him at the ball park. So much fun back in those days.
- Always remember him being around the old arena and the ball park. Just was a fixture in town.
-One of the fairest refs I knew, even if you didn't like the call, both as a player and coach great guy.
-Great hockey coach
-Uncle Gerry was Stern, gentle, kind and super fun! RESPECT! R.I.P. Uncle Gerry.😔
-Great ump, referee, and a kind gentleman. Proud to have known him.👏
-Great Man of hockey 🏒. Lots of fun.
-Great Uncle. If you talked back to him at a hockey game you soon heard about it.
-He was such a well known ref and umpire! He will always be remembered and respected by many!
-remember him well refing my brothers games
-Hard the write but has to be said in a Perkie voice: two minutes for high sticking.
- A legend RIP
-I remember Gerry, Don Jarvie in the Georgetown Arena
-If you grew up in Georgetown and played hockey there, there was about a 90% chance that Perky sentenced you to the sin-bin a couple of times anyway.
-More than a couple times for sure Kevin!
-Perky & Red Asseltine were my coaches in Peewee when we went to Goderich to great coaches & Great Men
-Lots of great memories of Perky and Red. Remember the old Seaforth Hotel? That Goderich tournament was fantastic. I think we drove Red and Perky crazy.
- Was always one of his favourite memories he spoke of!
-Very good guys
- My husband and brother-in-law grew up with "Perky" in their lives as did our two sons Andy and Rooster - he was either at the Ball Diamond or at the arena! Many wonderful memories of this man - doing whatever he could to better sports in our community! He eventually became a neighbour living on McNabb Street, although two blocks down the street from our home! <3
-All good memories of Perky and Betty hugs 🤗
-Gosh,,, he was stern on the ice,,, what a ref and a gentlemen off the ice, gentle giant in a lot of people’s lives❣️🤗🥰
-Perk once tossed me from a ball game without me saying a word to him. After a 3rd call stake, I simply rubbed dirt on my knees.
-Mr Perkins or "perky" was just part of the community. Everyone knew him...whether at the Old Arena or the fairgrounds...he was always around. Great guy
