Date of birth: Aug.18, 1895- Stewarttown; Date of death: July 24, 1960 –Toronto/buried Georgetown; one of roughly 1,000 black soldiers who served in WWI; fought in an all-white battalion. He was the 1st black Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Lorne Scots Regiment (1935-39), one of the oldest Canadian regiments. He was the Fire Chief of the Georgetown Fire Department in the 1930’s. During WWII, he served as the Company Sergeant Major (CSM) at #23 Training Camp in Newmarket Ont. In 1944, he was appointed to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). 2019 there is a Park in Georgetown named after him.

- As a high school Army Cadet I remember Henry's booming voice as Parade Marshal on Remembrance Day giving commands from the front of the parade and there was never any doubt as to what his command was!!

If It Didn't Come Back Threw , HE Was Welcome... So Proud Of This Gentleman 💛
