- I knew this guy from a very early age, a funny story about Paul & I, in 1961-62 we were playing road hockey in front of the Station House, the beer truck was making a delivery, the two guys were Andy Bathgate and Dick Duff's brother Eric, he approached us and ask if we every had hockey fights, we said no, we are buddies, he said he wound pay us to have one. So at it we went, it must have looked real as he gave us $25.00 WOW we were rich. Never phased our friendship as we went off arms around each others shoulders to spend our money :)
-Great story, Don. Mike just said most of the hockey players in those days had to have summer jobs. I had no idea. Boy times have changed.
-Yes Lynn most NHLers had summer jobs, driving either the beer Truck or for Coke or Pepsi seem to be popular :)
- What a great story, thanks for sharing that one!
- R.I.P. Paul...a family member remembered fondly & not a bad bone in him...gone far too soon...:(
- Enjoyed reading your memory story here Don...
-R.I.P. Perk 🙏
- great friend miss him lots
- I had a cousin who worked in the office at Maple Leaf Gardens and she would tell me that because of the shorter seasons (only 6 teams) that the guys would try to plan what work to do in the off season. Some got into “Kentucky Fried” or similar places. At some point a few of the guys got together to try for a “franchise”. I can’t say for certain but I think this is where the
“Tim Horton” franchise came about.😀
- Thanks for the post & memory Don. Wow 11/12 years old & $25 .... Yous were rich!! 😉. Oldest brother, kindest soul.....and very much missed. Ox
- We were friends with Paul and Linda for many years. He loved his son so very much ❤️ always laughing and I don't remember him with hair much lol.. Nice picture!!
- I went to visit Paul when he was in the hospital but they had taken him to Milton for an MRI..I waited because they told me he was on his way back to Georgetown ..I seen them coming down the hall so I went over to walk with them...Paul did not recognize me as he was out of it a little bit....so he says to me “ am I wearing something of yours”......I waited until he got in his room and then went to see him and he asked was that you in the hall after I told him it was he told me he was sorry....we both had a good laugh...RIP Paul....
