-My best summer memories were listening to Station House where ever they played!
- 🎶Great local talent!
-See, I knew that was you John Wilcox. So many denied you were even in Stationhouse. Ha. Thanks for clearing that up for us Bonnie.
-Super group of talented guys 🎸🎼
-Roller skating at Memorial Arena while SH played.
-What an awesome group of young talented men, they packed any place they played and had it rocking, so many great memories :)
-Loved when they did High School dances and Homecoming. So Chicago style.
-Hung out with Tom, Susan Jones and Ken Damphousse in the 60s
- Did they ever make a recording?
- yes, I have their CD , called Coming Home from 1978. All their best songs.
-maybe you should copy and sell some. Im pretty sure there is quite a demand for them.
-So many wonderful memories and such great music.
- Nice picture 👍🏻
-They were very good.I was there when they played at the exchange hotel[station house]& almost blew the roof off.We also had them play at the old riviera when we were raising money for the karate club.
- ....always a great night! ...where do I begin!? ;)
-I remember
- 🎼🎸👏Memories
- Where are they all today?
- Brent Barkhouse is in 3 different bands and does jazz in downtown Georgetowns Cellar every Friday night. Bruce Gregg and Gig Hillock, I'm sorry to say both passed away.
-thanks for the update 🙏
- So sad. Bruce was talking a lot on Facebook and I didn't even know he was sick.
-First, I'd like to thank Bonnie Hayes Courchesne for posting that Station House pic, terrific memories for me. Where are those guys today? .... Gig Hillock finished Berklee late '70's, then moved to LA, music production, he passed away earlier this year. Bruce Gregg passed away a few years ago. Chris Todd moved out west after he finished university, I hadn't seen him or kept in touch at all, but I did see him at Jones funeral home when his father passed away a few years ago, we had a brief catch-up. Tom Thompson is retired, living in Kingston with his daughter Natalie, I've kept in touch with Tom over the years. The Fraz is semi-retired, living in Pickering, we still get together, pick & sing a few tunes, usually with Jorge Lasso. John Wilcox is my brother-in-law, retired captain Barrie Fire Dept, see him all the time.... all the time. Anna & I played in a Think Pink fundraiser golf tournament in Orr Lake yesterday with John and Sally. He still plays trumpet, with the Barrie Concert Band (excellent band). Those days playing at the Station House (Exchange Hotel) with these guys really were wild & crazy, I'm always amazed at how many people remember that & talk to me about being there, considering how small it was.
-I used to sit outside and listen as I wasn’t old enough to go in. Jerry, Vicky and Geordie frequented the hotel.
-great memories
-I think Brent was my guitar teacher? Hard to remember that far back. Did he teach?
-.... yes, I did teach you guitar at Neil's Music store. If I recall correctly, your father was an Air Canada pilot or navigator. Good to hear from you!
-wow great memory Brent! Yes my dad was an air Canada pilot. He’s been retired for many years now! He’s 89!!! I didn’t go very far with guitar. I wasn’t very good as I’m sure you remember! Lol. I took up piano instead. I was a lot better at that. Hope all is well with you. Do you still teach?
- best teacher around
- Wow, great pic
-Chris Todd from norval?!! Carmen and Glenn’s Chris!! Wow cool didn’t know.
-I not sure of that I think his father was a school teacher and they lived in Georgetown, I could be wrong...
-oh ok. Thanx
- His father was a councillor at GDHS...I think his name was john...They lived across from St. John’s united church!!
-Shall I tell about my experience backstage of Holy Cross in November 1970? I really would love to tell it.
- yep.. tell us :)
-thanks, I will. In Nov. 1970, I left Georgetown to live in New Zealand. My last day in town was the Holy Cross dance. We were having a lot of laughs backstage when someone decided to turn on the ping pong ball machine they used for bingo. Gig decided to open the lid and ping pong balls were flying in every direction. Everyone was laughing hard. It seems like yesterday, but that was 49 years ago. It was a beautiful time and I miss that youthful exuberance we shared. I had to leave early to catch the east bound Grey Coach, I didnt even get to see the show.
-Brent ,the first boy I ever kissed ,think we were 12
-Looks like trouble. I dont trust him.
-I was in love and your grandparent loved him when he came visit on his bicycle
- ... I remember that.
-,a very long time ago ,I sill have the picture of you from camp counselling at the Terra Cotta, we went on a school bus and the song of the summer was appropriately Silence IsGolden
-Just make sure you're home when the street lights come on.
- I remember John Wilcox. I think we were in a couple of classes together. 😊
- He lived on Guelph Street , at the cenotaph. Brick house.
-I was very young I think I saw them once in the old Georgetown arena I cannot remember who they opened for . I can only help with 3 members of the band, sadly Bruce and Gig have passed away and Tom Thompson lives in Kingston, he is not in this group but he may be able to shed some light on the other members
-That was 1967, we opened for The Stampeders, I was 15. I got to play their tenor banjo backstage, the one they used on Sweet City Woman.
-thanks I remember being at the concert with my mom and sister but couldn’t remember who you opened for..15 wow that must have been really exciting for you
-Brent Barkhouse and I used to draw Fred Flintstone and the characters a lot. This, of course, was when we went to Harrison Publc School
- i remember that 👍
-I remember that too.
-I still draw Fred when trying to impress the little kids.
-Good photo. Yes I remember these names always bantered around our house , seeing that my brother was I think kind of in the same cohort .
-Bruce Gregg posted a personal story about the band which I would like to repost here now.....okay gang, funny story. Bryan would pick me, Kevin DesRues, and John Wilcox for band practice. he lived up the street and around the corner but I always knew when to put my jacket on because I could hear him start up his Z28. anyway I go to the car and there's a cage on the front seat. Bryan says it's a mongoose his family has been taking care of and we're going to drop it off. I get in and put it on my lap and Bryan says keep your face and fingers away because it will rip them off. It was dark in the car and just as we're about to pull out of my driveway the top of the cage opens up and this thing comes flying out! I froze! all I could picture was was this thing like the tazmanian devil whirling around my body and ripping it to shreds. Bryan was laughing his ass off. Turns out it was a stuffed animal with big fake teeth and a button on the side of the cage Bryan hit to open the cage! Bastard!!! After I changed my underwear I got in the back seat and we went to pick up Kevin. same scenario. the mongoose popped out and Kevin went for the door trying to get out of the car. another underwear change and we go to pick up Wilcox. Kevin gets in the back seat and John in the front and the cage pops ope. JOHN PUNCHED IT!!! I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life! hope this cheers you all up a bit
-If I could clarify something here, because I get asked ... There were actually 2 versions of Station House. The original band (ver 1) is the one in the photo, Gig started it in the late '60's, we played until Gig left for Berklee in the mid-'70's. Tom Thompson moved away. This is the band that played those wild nights at the Station House... what a blast!! Then, following Gig & Tom leaving...... myself, Fraser & the horn guys were joined by Bryan Day, Larry Thompson & Peter McCormick. This became Station House (ver 2). This is the band that played at the Riviera/Way Jay, and the 2007 Homecoming. As a side note, I have a number of photos of SH2, but none of the original SH1 (other than this photo Bonnie posted). The SH1 photos are what Guy Hillock is looking for....
