Glen Williams Hotel
Built in 1848 by William Alexander, it served as a tavern for travellers and farmers waiting for their grain to be ground to flour or trees to be sawn into boards at the local mills. With the introduction of national prohibition in 1919, it became a boarding house with the adjacent stables as a “boarding house” for horses– potential Queen’s Plate winners were housed here by Seagram Distillers for many years.
William Alexander eventually leased the hotel operation to John Cooke, another local innkeeper. The last hotelier here was Thomas Jefferson Hill, father of the first Mayor of Halton Hills.
