Perk 🙏 - great friend miss him lots - I had a cousin who worked in the office at Maple Leaf Gardens and she would tell me that because of the shorter seasons (only 6 teams) that the guys would try to plan what work to do in the off season. Some got into “Kentucky Fried” or similar places. At some point a few of the guys got together to try for a “franchise”. I can’t say for certain but I think this is where the “Tim Horton” franchise came about.😀 - Thanks for the post & memory Don. Wow 11/12 years old & $25 .... Yous were rich!! 😉. We were with your sister, Janet Shepherd and her parents, they did well that day! - Hello John, I don't think you were at the Queen's Plate that my Dad won, since that was in 1961. I shouldn't give my sister's age away but lets just say she was very, very young in 1961...lol. You were probably at another Queen's Plate since he was close to winning that many other times, but never did. He won the Prince of Wales steak race 5 times which is a record. - I am thinking one of the times we went ( we used to go every year) he came in second or third and Mrs Shepherd bet on that - One of my favourite people! We kept our horses with him at his home farm for years, and he was my mum’s race trainer at Woodbine for a very successful stretch in the early 2000’s!
