- I knew Gord Alcott from when I grew up in Weston Ontario. He ran a local insurance agency on the Main Street in town. He was also the founder of a young people’s group at the Weston Presbyterian Church called The Pax Class. When I moved to Georgetown in 1968 I was surprised to learn he was a Georgetown native.
- I understand that he was a great man and I am lucky to have his Godchild as my friend so I hear lots of stories.
- He put Georgetown on the map as we are known as THE HOME OF THE LITTLE NHL the minor hockey through out Canada in some way were modeled after Gordon Alcott's original format. Georgetown was and is a well respected hub of great hockey, with both male and female teams representing GEORGETOWN/HALTON HILLS and doing so with much success and bringing pride to the community :)
- Proud to say he was my Uncle. He had very strict rules for his teams. No smoking, drinking or swearing. My Dad always said he could have gone far in hockey if it was't for these rules. Lol
- I did not know Mr Alcott but from parents & grandmother heard good things. I think it is disgraceful that the arena named in his honour -which was definitely deserved - was changed to Moldmaster . Very sad !!
-I agree but it seems money talks and history doesn’t.
-Thanks Maureen it was a big disappointment to the family. Money talks!! At least one of the rinks is named after him.
- Grew up with the name and some of the family. Because he is still recognized today says alot for the man.
- the room upstairs is named after him.
- My uncle too, very proud of all his accomplishments.
- Same thing happened to Howard Wrigglesworth school. There should be a law to retain the original name and maybe just add on a second one if necessary!
- I remember him when he lived in Erin when he retired. My sister delivered his newspaper and he was the nicest man. Always had good things to say and had a smile on his face. I didn’t know how much he had done for Georgetown until I moved there and saw that the arena was named after him. And I too was saddened to see that his name was pushed aside for Moldmasters.
