- I remember at the outdoor rink of the Popiels, Mike took a slap shot hit me just above the pads...thought he broke my leg...I went down, Mike sh*t, it was cold and man did it hurt...he went to play in Kingston, came back whenever he saw me at school would smile...I real good person
- I had the same experience when we were early teens. We used to play on the Credit River ...Mike, Dick & Dean Popeil, Kyle Harkins --- All really good players, except me. I couldn't skate very good so I got Stuck in net and Mike used used to use me for Target Practice --- OUCH!

- He currently resides in Grand Haven, MI and is the Head Coach of the ACHA 2011 National Champion Division II hockey team at Grand Valley State University. Forbes was also named the 2011 ACHA D2 Coach of the Year, as well as being appointed to the Coaching staff of the 2012 ACHA D2 Select Team.

- also has 2 Stanley Cup rings from his time as GM running Muskegeon Lumberjacks for the Pittsburgh Penguins 92/93 season's
- When I was at U of Windsor Mike would get me a couple of tickets when they came to town. And, little known fact, Mike was a great shot putter in high school. A real good guy.
