-Mr Limehouse baseball
-What a great guy, we lived next door to Spike and his family for a time, he was so community minded in to sports and anything that would help his community and be better for all. My father and mother spoke very highly of Spike. A real good man :)
-Yes, Mr. Baseball and a good friend Spike Scott. His son Joe, who has left us as well was my best friend growing up in the Limehouse area.
Spike taught me a lot about Baseball and was my coach for years. A hard working Man that did his best.
-. WHEN SPIKE WAS A PITCHER ON THE GEORGETOWN / ACTON HARDBALL TEAM I WAS THE BATBOY. HE WAS AN EXCELLENT PLAYER.
- Spike and my dad Gord Fricker were good friends, we would visit often in Limehouse
-Also an excellent carpenter. He completed a basement for us back in the 70,s. DId a wonderful job
-l Coached me for years for baseball in limehouse
- Spike was friend of mines,,, Spike Scott RIP ,,,,
- Uncle Spike was a great guy. Have many many memories of him with baseball, family get togethers, card nights etc. But my absolute favourite memory of Uncle Spike was a Centennial School ski trip where he drove the bus and then he and I hit the slopes together. He had driven a number of trips there so was quite familiar with the slopes/trails and he and I hit them all. It was a GREAT day and we had soooo much fun. The other thing I remember about him was his laugh. His laugh was contagious! RIP Uncle Spike.
- Oh and Chris we could never beat you guys from the Glen
-it was usually a good game though. And always fun!!
- I think Mrs Scott was our bus driver to Spey side school.
- The first time I met Spike was when he played lacrosse a while after that came to our home in Inglewood not to play lacrosse but to take my sister out .?..?. I like that help me with my playing
- Bud
The first ball diamond at the school was that the little one by the forest? Do you know the man’s name that donated the land for the Limehouse Park? I can remember the old green wooden posts of the back stop and sitting on Uncle Doug’s backhoe removing them to make room for the new metal posts. I was always told that you my dad Coop Deforest and Carman Maltby built the original diamond. Was there anyone else involved???
-YES I was there a lot when RED ROSHER got to borrow the town ROAD GRADER to level the land where the field is now THE land was all sand IT could rain all day and still play ball that night it was great then getting trees from the bush for the back stop //COOP & I DID COACH THE OLDER [PEE WEE]SPIKE the youger ones ANNE MARIE ??? the girls SPIKE did a lot there even umpired IT took a lot of work to get it going not only some nights BUT A LOT OF ALL DAY ONES ALSO
- the team we looked after a team of pee wee age I think the age was no older than 12 years GARY MOORE and JOE DEFOREST were our pitchers if you get to see them you ask them there age and go from there [when it started and other guys and girls ]
- Have a beautiful little table he made me . as a thank you gift . a treasure
- I remember him well. One of the only jockey saddles I have ever seen was his that he gave to Jackie.
- I remember that saddle
- Spike gave me the opportunity to play baseball. AS a young girl eager to learn he taught me well and gave me the opportunity to play on the boys team. More girls were interested and started a girls team . He gave me self esteem that was lacking , which I am very grateful for. He helped me to believe in myself . Thanks Spike you were a great influence on my life. Still think of him often
- Great guy and family
- We lived beside Spike and his family in Limehouse in the early '80's. We had many great chats and chuckles.
- Remember him well growing up in Limehouse. We used to hang around on the bench in front of his Dads store and watch the men playing horse shoes across the road.
- players Sam Gisby, Harvey and Al Norton, Joe Scott
- Yes. We ran into Fred Gisby a few years ago when Linda and I visited the village with the Briggs girls.
- Always smiling, Uncle Spike was dedicated to his family and his community. Gave everything he had to ensure his family (Joe, Steve, Al, Glenn & Jenn and every kid in Limehouse) enjoyed growing up in Limehouse. Was also a premium athlete in his prime. Should be in the Halton Sports Hall of Fame for Athletics (hockey, lacrosse, baseball etc) and Builder categories. Miss his infectious smile. RIP Uncle Spike.
- I totally agree with you Terry. For the record we always could never beat you guys from the Glen. If i remember correctly you were some chucker too
-funny, Joe and I used to always practice together when we got together at family events. We finally got to play on same team in our high school years. He was my catcher and little did I know then how much it would mean to me. Always had a great rivalry with Limehouse, a friendly competitive and spirited one at that. Miss those good old days. For the record, I married a Limehouse gal. 🙂
- he certainly was.
- If you didn't know Spike you weren't from Limehouse. Great family!
- spike did block work for when had B and b woodworing great guy
-Spike was one of a kind. He was my brother's baseball coach for a number of years. We knew him, his wife Doris and his family well
- Winter 1956-7 colt broke through ice on swimming pool Uncle Spike jumped in the freezing water and lifted and pushed colt out of water. Recorded in Georgetown Herald.
- Thanks everyone for the kind words about my dad. I am going to take My cousin Terry’s advice and prepare to write up/ application to have him added to the sports hall of game. If anyone has any pictures or information ( dates) regarding the beginning of baseball in Limehouse I would appreciate the assistance.
I sure miss playing chat with dad and my brother Joe.
- Alan Scott talk to Bud Hayes. He helped your dad and Koop build the field.
- Also Carman Maltby Garry or Dwayne might be able to get you info .
-yes I miss my chats with Joe . We shared so many memories .I know the first year they played at the school then we made the baseball field on the 5th line . thinking around 1970 . Earl and Joe would be 10
- he remembers stories by his father John of him and Spike having their own Marlon Brando days riding their motorcycle around in the early days. Even though Spike was Johns uncle they were inseparable as they were close in age.
- they also played lacrosse and hockey together Spike was the goalie always said Jack Bionda could score on him from the blueline, John played defense used to take tough hits usually from behind because no one would charge him from the front, big guy.
