Ray Denny, Lou Zander, Jim Ridley, Brian Cosgrove, David Lawrence, Gord Bassett, Peter Gardiner, Norbert Gabet, Bob Pinkerton.
Robert Khoury, Thelma Hearns, Joanne Mackie, Hilda Boyes, Joy Smallwood, Donna Zanni, Michael Ogden, Wayne Edmonds.
Linda Pilgrim, Johanna VandeValk, Claire Grigg, Larry Ciglan, Jack Reed, Audrey Leggett, Angie DeBruyn, Marg Kalil
-Mr. Zander's was my home room teacher that year, Mr. Basset is also someone I recognize in this photo. Great photo of all our teachers that year. Mr. Ciglan also taught at Chapel Street.
- I think the one guy (Larry Ciglan) in the front row may have played on the Norwegian Olympic Curling team.
-they were in the gig math room together
-Love the Hip Styles of the 70's.
-Look at Mr. Denny
-I had him in 1983 at George Kennedy and in 1986 at Centennial ...great teacher!
-yes he was they had amazing teachers back then
-Don’t forget he teach both your sons too
-He was my homeroom teacher the first year there.
-Anyone remember the kingdom of Garzan??!!
-I so remember, fun times!! Would have to say Mrs Smallwood was a favourite!!
-sad to say that Joy Smallwood has passed away.
-I loved Mrs. Smallwood.
-Ridley and Bassett passed away as well.
-mr bassett and his yard stick
- I was fortunate enough to avoid the yardstick. LOL
-only got it once... learned my lesson
-"Judas H. Priest", would you look at Jim Ridley! The A-team of Stewartown teachers.
- Thomas Sloan Was his wife a teacher also? I had Mrs. Ridley for English at GDHS in the early 80's. Adored her.
-Excellent, respected staff. Such a flashback! :)
-The year after I left. Great to see thankyou.
- I always had a crush on the French teacher! Mrs,federman I think😁
-I think we all did...some girls too...lol
-She was at Centennial in the early 80's. I might have had "crush" on her too as I recall! In any case, I really liked her.
-I remember most of these teacher when I went there
-Looks like a Halloween party with those outfits. How times have changed.
-I had mr Denny for shop class
-Now a'days teachers wear jeans to school!
-Wow. This was a few years after I left but remember lots of the teachers. Mr. Zander taught us to play “craps” Miss Mackie passed away recently
- I was at Stewarttown that year !!!
-i can't say i remember any of the teachers at the school :(
-did you go to Stewartown school?
-OMG! I was in grade 7 and Mrs. Kalil was my home room teacher. I loved that dress she's wearing in the photo! I often see Miss Mackie at the Georgetown Farmers' Market and Choral Society concerts. I remember our first Home Ec class was open face sandwiches!!! Wow, great memories!
-ms. Mackie passed away.
- Oh dear! That is sad news. But her legacy will live on with all of those who attended her classes.
-I remember them all.
- I think I liked Stewartown best of all the schools I attended.
-great times
-Thanks for the posting. My dear Joy...we'd been married only a year then. The pic prompted me to call Angie Debruyn this morning, and she gave me Mike Ogden's cell. I just spoke with Mike and Alice, on the road near Thunder Bay, heading home from a winter in BC.
-Alan Reed lots of familiar faces in this one
-My mom always enjoyed working with the Stewartown staff. My wife, Heather (nee Vance), remembers several of the staff from when she went there (‘66-‘68).
-I loved your Dad as my grade 8 teacher!!! - and loved reconnecting with your Mum at Stewarttown!! Sadly - so many of these people have passed. We were getting together once a year (group got smaller and smaller) at Joanne Mackie's; now she has passed
-Dave Lawrence is my cousin. See him the odd time. Looking a little older now.
-I remember him, best teacher there. Wood shop was my favorite class.
-Mr. Lawrence use to coach baseball in hornby also
-Many memories.
-SSPS was the best school I ever attended. Mrs. Hearn took no prisoners, but she truly turned around my academic attitude. Can’t thank her enough for her patience and guidance.
- God I feel old
-Cause I remember them all
-I remember a bunch too. Especially Mr Ridley
-You can't be that old if you still remember...LOL
-I had Mr Ridley! Many memorable classes with him.
-Met alot of those good people in Sept 76.
-Wow that's a flash‼️ Thank you
-this is the year we met Sue! Grade 8
-It was a floodgate of memories for sure...wow
- All the good ones
-Wow.....talk about Memory Lane. 🙂
-Went to this School and not to many good memories there.
-Mr Ridley coached alot of the school sports team's
-Yes i agree, Mr. Ogden was a very nice man indeed
-I remember this gang lol
-I was there during those years and remember them all! Great pic! Ruth (nee Linton).
-Nothing in life is ever perfect. Loved those teachers. They were great. We all like some more than others. Some worse than others. However they were our blast from our past.
-Had Mr Cosgrove for home room in grade 8. He was cool.
-Fall 75 to spring 77. I remember our class tipped over Mr. Pinkerton's bookcase & half crushed his oak desk. Went ballistic on us.
-I think the one guy in the front row may have played on the Norwegian Olympic Curling team.
-Thanks for posting 👍🏻
-I recognize most of them wish I could remember what they each taught
-We all had good teachers & ones not so.....remember family members also read these post
-Does anyone know if Bassett is still alive?
- Died around 2009.
- I won't speak ill of the dead any longer then...I would have liked to have given him a piece of my adult mind though.
-Mr. Pinkerton was my favourite teacher at Limehouse Public School. I had him for grade 3 .
-I had him for grade five at George Kennedy PS. I liked him a lot.
-I had him in Limehouse as well. We called him Mr Pinky
-Holy flash back!
-I remember watching the first Jays game in Mr. Gardner's math class. They wheeled in the tv on a really tall stand.
-haha it was so thick and heavy.
- heaven forbid it tipped over.
- There was so many. I see Mr. Lawrence. We had great teachers back then. Miss Mackie taught us so much. There were so many I liked!
-I saw Mr Lawrence a couple of years ago. He does maintenance at Milton heights campground. Called him Dave. It didn't seem to mind. LOL
-We watched the 1972 Canada Russia hockey in class either Gardiner and Zander.
-on that tv that was 7 ft high
-I remember it well.
-yes. I remember that. I wasn't a hockey fan but who didn't appreciate watching tv instead of math lol.
-I remember Mr. Bassett always used to refer to the U.S. as “The U. S. of A.”.
-And Mr. Cosgrove wore a corduroy jacket.
-I had him in the 80's, either at Centennial Middle School or GDHS, but I don't remember the subject. Science maybe?? I think I liked him. I had his wife for home ec for three years in high school. Really liked her. We listened to music in class all the time. She was really into Air Supply as I recall. Lol
-I think he was my English teacher.
-Definitely not English because I remember all of mine: Had one (the most boring man the world. - Mr. Lamborn) twice. and two women, both of whom I adored. Geography????
-Think Mr. Bassett taught both history and geography for me.
-You must either be talking about Stewarttown or about a different time than I because Mr. Basset didn't teach at either Centennial or GDHS when I was there. (Mr Cosgrove did, but I don't remember which. I'm thinking it was Centennial. (1980-'84)
Mr. Basset did, however, live on my street! About eight houses down. 🙂
-Stewarttown!
- Was probably in highschool with Mr Cosgrove then. I guess a simple check of the yearbook would give me the answer, but not on which subject. Definitely wasn't English. 🤔🤔🤔
-Mrs. DeBruyn was my homeroom teacher and English teacher. She now lives up the road from my family and breeds Newfoundland dogs.
-Thanks for sharing. I just had dinner with Mrs Hearns last week. She is like a second mom to me.
-She walked me Spanish across the school yard once at Park Public ('79-'81?) Woman has a temper. :)
-Actually, I recall her seething through her teeth as she had me lifted from the ground by the scruff of my neck, that she hoped to be around when someone really beat the hell out of me. (I'm paraphrasing her.). Kindly tell her from me, that many have tried over the years, but only a few ever bested me. :). I honestly don't recall what occurred on the day she 'walked me Spanish' into Mr. MacDonald's office. Lol.
-I remember her “crunchies “ in gym class. I’m sure I wasn’t a favourite to her cuz I never was very athletic!
-Mr. Bassett was actually one of my all time favourite teachers.
-I doubt you won't fin a boy that would say the same.😑
-I had him for Grade 8 History in 1969-70 and had no issues, he treated me well. Admittedly he was old school, he wasn't going to let anyone walk on him. It was a different era.
-i remember that bill it was painted on the outside of the building
-Great school, great times! Some crazy antics between the music room and the math room. Taking Zander’s VW Thing to get the pa from Neil’s for sock hops.
-Stewarttown school was awesome, the sock hops were the best, my first dance with a girl, Sandy Sedore. Mr. Ogden was so kewl playing his guitar and singing "The answer my friends is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind". Mrs. Smallwood had such a happy heart and Mr. Gardner was a great fella, Mr. Basset scared the hell out of me.
-I remember we had Bassett in home room and for history. Got along fine with him as long as you behaved. Don’t get into your desk from the wrong side the way Wade Bond did the 1st day of grade 8! Out to the hall he went for a “tune up”. Presidece was set right there ,Day one...
-I remember that he was someone who was very Strict and I wasn't about to test his limits. Good Times at Stewarttown! I loved the bus ride there too.
-Loved shopping for the long, blue prom dress!
-Not only were these all my teachers at Stewartown but Mr. Pinkertons wife was my kindergarten teacher at Glen Williams, Mr. Ciglen was my principal at Norval school & the wives of Cosgrove & Ogden were teachers at Centennial school.
-Remember them all, my grade 8 yr.
-That was a hard year for me, ohhhhh the teenage years, I loved all the years after much better then the teen ones. Gary Maltby could sure hit a room run with a baseball bat, I forgot that Tammy Fendley and Elaine Bastedo were in our class, We were ALL great kids!
-Mrs Smallwoods husband was a DJ at our dances
-Remember that now.
-I liked Mr. Basset, Mrs Kalil. I remember the split classroom with Mr. Zander/Mr. Gardiner and watching the Canada/Russia hockey on TV
-Mr Blue Jays what a great teacher.
-Blue Jay Scout, helped put together the first few teams
-I think 1969/70 and 1970/71 at Stewarttown were my favourite years of schooling. The teachers were all very engaging and quite cool. I mean look at some of their clothes, pretty dam fashionable for the time! My mum looks like she had a late night the night before this was taken, haha. Lou Zander and Joanne Mackie even came down to NZ to visit us in the 80s.
-your poor mum’s work life should have been a cakewalk after you and I left SSPS. 😉
-yes now that I think about it you’re probably right! Let’s not go into too many details on here though, haha!
-interesting hem length!
-a little bit short....lmao
-Now I blush!

-Somewhere I have a Wrigglesworth t-shirt that Alex had in Grade 1. (Yes I keep everything)
-Me too. Kept everything. Lol
-I started in kindergarten the year it opened . Mrs Henry was our teacher . Both my kids went there too . I was sad & disappointed when the name was changed as was his son Bob. Seems to me wrong to honour a person then years later change name . Same done will Alcott arena .Both these men are still worthy of this honor.
-I agree, to me it is totally wrong!
-do you remember us making and selling Joke books for a trip to Niagara lol
-We had to go to the stores to ask them to put in an advert think it cost them 50 cents lol . hated that part . Had my cockney accent lol
-I was in the first Grade Eight class to graduate from Howard Wrigglesworth 1955
-Think the year it opened I was in grade 3 or 4. I had Miss Scarlett one year. Mr Catling also taught there.
-I had Miss Scarlett in grade 7 at Harrison (probably '61-'62) with Keith Bennett!
-Some later taught at Park I remember Miss Scarlett in high school days. Who was she?Did she ever become a Mrs anyone? Think a couple of years ahead of me ... Miss Scarlett was the boys dream
Mr Katling was principal at Park.
-so did I.
-I don't think she everybecame a misses. Also remember Mrs McClure I think she was part time. Mrs Scarlett was a very Imposing teacher..
-the boys thought she was special. Hahaha.
- I believe there was Miss Fox. Good laugh Gloria . Gloria are you married to Wayne.
-I remember Miss Rose Piercy. A very nice and caring person. At Georgetown High.
-Miss Peircy was my favourite :)
- when she was our teacher she was elderly - no boys' dream - but I think she did flirt a bit with Keith Bennett and Pete Barefoot!!
-We had Mrs. McClure as a supply teacher when Miss Scarlett was off sick - had us memorize the names of the books of the New Testament - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John....We had a piano in our classroom, and we sang a lot with her playing - she was very well dressed and somewhat imposing!!
-I had Miss Scarlet in grade 4 at Harrison I think. At that time she was an older women. Probably in her 60's.
-I went there Kindergarten to Grade 6
-I went there starting in grade 6 had Mr Kinrade in 6 7 8 Brenda Hawks Mascarenhas
-do you remember Miss Hall? I have lots of great memories of school days at Wrigglesworth P.S.
-I do . Remember she click her one tooth . Great memories of Wrigglesworth too. Bob Wrigglesworth visited us in Sauble about 2 years ago and was asking about name change I felt bad & still do .
-I had forgotten about Miss Hall.
-Miss Hall marched me to the stockroom a few times. I look back and realize the strappings were my own doing. She taught me to listen and do as i was told.
-I remember Miss Hall and the ruler
-I remember Miss Hall and her brown suits, the yard stick, and how upset she would get when the inspector was in the school.
- Funny story about Miss Hall, the Prucyk boys caught a crow and taught it to talk it came to school and sat outside Miss Hall's window they taught it to say HAZEL'S A BITCH drove her crazy :)
-In about 1956 at Glen Williams school when we lined up to go in the junior entrance there was a talking crow that sat on the roof and talked as we went into the school. When I tell that story a lot of people don't believe me. ------ Was Marty one of the boys with the crow?
-yes he was :)
-I remember Miss Hall and the strap
-I had Miss Hall in grade 6 when we moved to Georgetown from THE GLEN , in 1960 was not a great time for me in her class that is for sure ...saying no more ...
-she gave me the strap many times lol
-A lot of straps you guys .. 🤗
-Miss Hall called us Normandy Blvd. brats. I thought it was derogatory not realizing what the name meant.
- I went to Wrigglesworth from kindergarten to grade 6, from 1961 to 1967, then to stewartttown for 7 & 8. Mr Kinrade was our principal. Chuck peavoy and I got the strap once from him. He used to hold your hand, hit you with the strap then throw his head back so his hair would go back....lol... I only got the strap once...chuck had it a few more times..lol... I remember Miss Smith, in grade 4, she was Hottt.... Not to get confused with Mrs Smith the moustache lady, who used to supply teach....and had Mrs Taylor in grade 6
-I went to HWPS from K-8. Miss Hall was a great teacher I remember she would bang the pointer on the desk if you weren’t paying attention. Dale Walker was in our class. He kept falling asleep b/c he eas growing so fast. The on day she went to bang his desk with her pointer, & he sat up & she broke the pointer over his head. She felt terrible!!!

Paper Mill Dam

Picture
-We use to swim at the bottom of the dam
-My 3 sons enjoyed throughout many a summer ❤️
-In the 50's for sure!!
- Mom didn't see us all summer.
-I used to hate it when some dummy would shoot a harmless old turtle and the poor thing would stink for half the summer.
-Yes, snapping turtles would nest on the island, or come ashore to the sandy beach area.
-FISHED THERE, JUMPED OFF BRIDGE THERE, DID CRAZY BOAT RACE THERE, WATCHED PAUL SPITERI DIVE IN THERE, BIKED THERE, NEVER PLAYED VIDEO STUFF THERE, GREW OLDER THERE, WONDERFUL PLACE THERE, GREAT PICTURE
- it was a great place to live and grow. Not much in the way of supervision but the world didn't seem to be so full of perverts and mental cases. Speaking of diving in my best memory was of Dick Weatherall, he parked a model A / T on the middle span, then climbed on top of the car and dove off. His foot slipped and instead of a swan, he did a belly flop. The report of him hitting was worse then a 12 gauge shotgun. He never let on that he was hurt. (big balls) In reflection I think if he had done the dive right he would probably killed himself, as I am not sure if the water was deep enough for a proper dive.

-Apparently they didnt have lawn mowers back then, LOL.
-I live on Durham St. Anyone out there have any olden pics of my street?
-I lived at 33 Durham St back about in the mid '60s right at the end of Ostrander Blvd
-Those stone houses are beautifully updated now.
-I lived around the corner at 4 Emery St.
-The two houses prominent in the photo are named "Illahee" and "Uenee" spelling may not be exact!!
-They did indeed have names something like that. I was never in both but I was in one in the 60s, Gorgeous house at the time inside.
