-Nice store. Great gifts
-The old mall had bigger windows for the store owners to have displays facing the parking lots. There was alwas lots to see in the good old days.

Filled it with sand, built jump ramps for the bicycles and roped off the areas .....gave trophies for the Winners -i didn't know that Mari.. thanks -It was so much fun! Linda & Nick put on a beautiful dinner buffet! Glad we had our reception there ❤️ -Shared an apt once with Carl Currie main floor
-I lived in that house -I was about to say that! About you, not me. -spent 8 yrs going to school there.good memories -I went to school there for 4 years. -I went there for 4 years also...lòoooong time ago -I went to grades 1 and 2 there. Thelma Hearnes was teacher and Jack Reed principal. -what year did you first attend Chapel? I’m searching for class pics of grade 4 and 5. -Im not sure I had Mcbride in gr3 , Mr homer gr4, miss stull gr 5 -i had Mrs Hume in Gr 4 , not homer - grade 4 starting fall of 1963. Virginia Walker teacher soon to be Virginia Hulme -we had Wilma Stull grades 5 and 6 -They were both teaching in Stewarttown much later of coarse LOL -Grades 1 to 8 there! I Was the only one in grade 1.....my claim to fame! Eight grades, one room, two teachers up to grade 4 when they opened the upstairs room for grades 5-8! Great school, great memories! Teachers were Mrs.Lawson, Miss Quinton (now Mrs. Benton), Mr. Allen and Mrs. McKay! -Grade one and two, Ms Quinton ....then disaster....they built Holy Cross in town and had to ride the bus ! -I went there !!! and I had to walk it !!!!! every day and had lots of fun along the way ! -I remember the Christmas concerts the most. That's where I learned how to Square Dance. -When l went to that school,Jean Ruddell was the teacher -Had a stag for brother here. -Went there for grade 1. Teachers husband would give us a ride to school in the bucket of his tractor. -My sister used to live there! Spent a lot of time there 🤗 -Visited often when Neil and Brenda Johnson lived upstairs. -Can anyone tell me exactly where this is? Is it privately owned now? Converted to a residence? Any contact info for the owner? Thanks. I think you know where I'm going with this. -It's on the 5th line just south of the limehouse baseball park. -believe it is a privately owned residence. Maybe the Vander Burgs? Rudy? -Rudy Vandenberg -I wonder if my grandma and her family went to this school -I loved working there with your Mom and Dad, Bonnie Hayes Courchesne and several other great people. Great place and too bad it closed.
-My mom and dad both worked here for many many years.. -Great place to work great people especially.... -dad has lots of pictures of the reunion you guys had many years ago.. I'll see if he has them handy.. -That would be great. -How is Bud, remember him well working there. -He’s on here Jim. -HI JIM how is it going holy crap it has been along keeping well i hope -Hi Bud, where are you living now. You were always a happy guy and I enjoyed all the time spent at Gage and DRG. -I loved working there too. Pretty much grew up there. Started st 17 left at 37. Good place awesome people -I was wondering when you were going to post a picture of Gage, seeing as your Mom and Dad worked there. A great place to work. Met a lot of good friends there, including my wife. From the back of the building you can still see the old words Gage Stationary. Though the company has long gone, the memories still carry on. -I loved working there —met a lot of great people there many of them we are proud to call good friends even after all these years —had a lot of good times, watched the younger ones get married and start families—-laughed with a lot of them and cried with some we were family and that’s what family does —- -Yes was a great place to work....I worked with amazing people there...where have the years gone heh.... -Rick and I periodically look at the bldg from the back, Food Basics parking lot. You can see the faded letters of Gage on it. -How long has it been empty? Drove by the other day. Looking pretty tired!! -Oh ya it was a great place to work, worked alongside a lot of good people and it was a pretty black day when we heard the company was sold and had to watch the machines going out the door. -I worked there on a GDHS internship and then for two summers when I was 18 and 19. I learned SO much... I implemented the new MRP system they brought in, and in the 2nd summer, spent two-weeks in just about every job there as vacation relief. It was an amazing summer and experience. -I have fond memories, but even then, (1985 and 1986) it was in trouble. -Love seeing the names above... I can't quite place some of them, but some look familiar. So many amazing folks. -How many years did you spend working here Molly -I remember Molly well... she was very nice to me and taught me stuff. Great people. Her name is certainly easy to remember. -20 Years, very fond memories of this place, -I worked in the factory, then the office then the factory and back to the office. Once the operations seized I went and worked at the sister company (PNG Glove Envelopes) in Etobicoke. Quite a drive I had after working right in town for so many years. Lots of familiar names here. Lots of good people and long time friends. -Employed three or four years. Worked one or two. -Not sure when DRG closed, i want to say around 1992 .. I have pictures of our youngest son at the christmas party when he was 1 and he was born in 1990.. I believe it became skyjack after that -let's see if I can name a bunch.. Frank Lloyd, Cindy Crawford, Sharon Hilts, Cavell Wrigglesworth, Rose Thompson, Doug Waites, Cheryl Field, Cheryl Haines, Donna Peacock, Ann McMillian (she took our dog) ;) Debra Wagstaffe, Ed,, no idea how to spell his name, Muriel Francis, Lloyd Andradi(sp) he did our Video for our wedding, ... Sue and Rick Cunningham, Cindy Cunningham, Joe Denishaw, Lorne Corbett, Woody Fabian, Chris Somers, Abbie,, Molly Moore, Judy Quick, Linda Starrat .. Not bad considering I never worked there.. :) -Molly Moore, Jackie Sproule... -Who was the GM...he was a family friend. Passed away, maybe 15-years ago. -Abbie... he worked in the office and did a lot of the quoting for estimates. I spent a lot of time with him. -yes Abbie.. great guy.. -What did you do there Bonnie... I have a vague thought that I know you from DRG in 1985/86. -nothing..lol.. My parents worked there for forever.. -OK... the Hayes name is what I was remembering... so maybe that's it. -What did they do? -But I was in there all the time.. I think They all knew I was pregnant the first time before My husband did.. LOL I called my parents right after I found out -My dad.. Bud was in the Machine shop.. my mom.. Judy worked on the floor.. -Did your Mom work the night shift? There was this lady whom I adored... she was close to the office - just outside the factory door. When they moved her to day-shift (night shift went away), she told me that she had spent 23-years on the night shift and still was struggling to sleep at night. (That stuck with me forever) -nope she always worked days.. -OK - but still a nice memory for me. -They worked the same shift.. then came home and talked about work during dinner.. all the time.. lol -I'm sure I knew them at the time... Nice to loop back a little! Thanks. -yeah you probably did.. my dad liked to joke around alot there.. -John McDonald was the HR manager there at one time, back in the 70s. -yes.. Thanks John .. -Abbie worked on the floor in the envelope dept. -He also worked in the office... I took over his desk for two weeks in 1986. I was doing estimates (quotes) for orders. I remember being so proud of the first quote I did... Abbie sent me out to the floor of confirm how much wire was used to create a spiral bound book. I don't recall the answer, but I *KNEW* I was right... I did up the quote, and then he asked me "How much is cut off and wasted". Damn, I didn't ask that question! He knew EVERYTHING! -maybe thinking of Grace Armstrong she worked afternoons —-very nice little lady—her husband John —son Richard and daughter Debbie worked there too -did you work with George Kipp -John worked there when I was leaving so probably 1977-78 ish. -I bet I did work with George... this was all 32 years ago, and I've had 100-jobs since then! ;) But it certainly sounds familiar. -I had one of the most impactful work experiences ever at DRG. I worked in the office, and quickly realized that there was this separation between the office and the factory that was completely stupid! The job I had the first summer required me to understand how EVERY product DRG sold was produced. I was populating the new MRP system... I created the BOMs (Bill of Materials) and routing steps for every product. It required me to go and talk to so many folks on the floor. They were awesome. I loved it. Helped shape my career (this was in 1985!) and assign high respect to the factory workers. They knew stuff that NO ONE (except maybe Frank Lloyd) knew. So, thank you to all the DRG folks I interacted with all those years ago... you helped me shape a successful career. -I spent a few years there with Bud Hayes & Debra Wagstaffe. -You did -Bud, what ever happened to Joe Denesha?-Or Jim Phillips? -Jim was in a home in Toronto I believe and don’t know about Joey one time someone seen him on the Main Street and I once asked Tina whatever became of him but she didn’t want to talk about him and she has since passed away so don’t know —maybe someone on here will add to that or at least correct me please -Thanks for the update -worked there for a couple of months -I was there for 16 years A lot of people went through there over the years A lot of friendships were created A lot of good memories Frank Lloyd was my mentor and good friend He taught me a lot of life’s lessons May he r.i.p. Hello to all that passed through DRG !!! -even i worked there for a short time lol -3 months I think 🤔. 1972 -Do you remember us looking for suits for the DRG Xmas dance? -Vaguely Gary. Haha 😆 -I worked there when it first came to Georgetown -I went there as a child
-Went to Sunday School there. -Me too. -Went there when it was a little white church. Around 1967 when we first moved to GTown, Reverend Johnson was the first minister I remember. It was so small we had Sunday school first then brought in the chairs for actual church😃 -My parents were friends with Calvin & Connie Johnson. He was very dear to me and helped me as a young child with the passing of my budgie. I was so upset and he said “but Tiffy you know he went to heaven”. I responded “no they threw him in the garbage! “ 🤣 -My father is a chartered member at this church (he has been there right from the beginning) We met at Harrison Public School at first, then they built the portable. I went to church, christened, confirmed, and married at that church. My father attends every Sunday. I remember the floors being so cold, being a portable, and we met there as brownies. -Good memories of Sunday School, cubs and Scouts with Jim and Gord. -My father and I just attended a funeral for George Ventry. He was a great scout leader when my bro, Jim was in scouting. -George was my Scouter with Jim. I did not know he passed. Sad. -March 21 we travelled to Waterdown for the service, he just turned 91 years. I am still good friends with Deb. George and Deb lived in homes in an adult community near Freelton, called Antrim Glen. -676
-cadets young men showed many good things to live by -Lovingly restored and current home of Georgetown Globe Musical Productions. It's a beautiful building. -I was an army cadet and we spent a night sleep over where we took part in winter combat in the park in the area as well learning to repel from the tree to the left of the building using just a rope and making a harness! Many times leaving there in the back of a duce and a half to travel to areas learning how to cover and hide this huge rig well we we on field practice! -...hmmm, does it make me 'old' If I know the building as simply the Armoury? 😎 -676 and the Lorne scot, spent 17 years at the armouries -Spent a lot of money in there as a kid.
-Lived three houses up from there. -Should ride our bikes there, drop them out front and they would always be there when we returned....oh to have those days again.... -Little by little the gtown i grew up in is fading :/ bummers i could write a book about this macs ( will always be macs to me 40 + yrs) from my first hockey cards in the 70's to bmx stops and rare 1 video game in the 80's to car loads of us pit stopping heading out of town and returning to town for its 24hrs....macs served so many of us in my gen for sure....sad to see the changes ...... -Crazy no Macs Milk store. Where is the cheap popsicles now? No beckers Macs what's next -Circle K in Canada? Wow I thought they were just down here. Crazy! -....my hometown!!! Crazy!! -I noticed that on friday -I just noticed it too the other day.. no idea when it changed over.. I remember Lynn owning it, he was a great guy -Is that next to the bowling alley? -yes it is -I was born in Georgetown ... lived there for 35 years. Grew up on Irwin Crescent, was sad to see my favourite “treat” store Becker’s gone. Now Mac’s.... I know things change, but I so loved my little old Georgetown. -It’s quiet 🤫
-did they ever re-open? -It is so 😢 -Memories. National Champions in Bantam Doubles in 1968. -They have returned to Doubles from 5 man (and 4 man) teams. -Thanks . We also had a five man team that was with us in Edmonton for the Nationals. They were Steve Burns, Doug Enman, Dave Thomson, Steve Savage and Dave Warman. -Hasn't changed much!! -WHAT a bloody shame -I spent a lot of time there. -So many child and adult memories made behind those doors 😢 -Lots of time spent there, in Childhood and Adulthood -Bowled for years, Tues and Wed afternoon ladies league -I think Mum was in one of those leagues, then the seniors' league - walked there and back from Bairstow every week for many years -Yes Linda your Mum bowled either Tuesday or Wednesday Afternoon. -Big part of my life growing up spent behind those doors. sad to see -Let's get in reopen, perhaps renovate, modernize and perhaps expand maybe a second floor :) -The lawsuits have to be settled before anything can be done. The building is a shell all machines are gone -Lawsuits? -landlords and tenant. They didn't close the business willingly 😔 -Had my first job there -I spent Saturday mornings there. 😢 -There used to be a bowling alley downtown ...somewhere when i was a kid in the '60s.. I can't remember where it was though...anybody?? -Mill St. beside the Old Post Office. -Thank you... i thought that's where it was ... -Downstairs on Mill St. Doorway right beside Thrift Shop. I think there were five lanes. Pins reset by "pinboys". -I use to be one of those “pin boys” downton. I believe I was in Grade 5 and we got $0.10 cents per game. People would try to hit us when we were in the pit racking. Crazy fun for that age. -The Roxy Theatre was next door. -For a short period of time in the 80's there was a nightclub/bar downstairs with the entrance off the parking lot at the rear. Name? -, Started out as a Disco called "Jakes" in the late 70's Ken , myself and Howie Oram reopened in 81 as "Howies". Long story short, Al Piluti and I Started "The Roxy" in 82, open until 86. The Upstairs was all a part of it, operating as the Dining room unti 83, it then became "the holding tank" for people waiting to go downstairs.....we could'nt make any money off people standing outside in a lineup lol, so wait upstairs and have a drink, play some pool or pinball! Benny Loriman and Al Piluti were the owners of the building. -I thought your name rang a bell. It was a great spot. Anyone got any photos? -My dad owned the bowling alley downtown for awhile.. 4 lanes and I used to reset the pins at times... it was dangerous... -I bowled many games there. Saturday mornings -So sad seeing it be closed, use to bowl there all the time in tournaments and stuff when I was younger , lots of memories and good times . -I remember it being built and when it opened -It didn't close because of lack of use, but because of a landlord / tenant dispute. -My mom used to work the snack bar there. -I think it be need to put an roller rink in ... -it's a shame, I luv the sport and the only one I can do at my age :-) -We went a few times -I remember it well -The investment to keep up with the "super" alley's and huge arcades is high... and this location is relatively small... might be simply too difficult to run a profitable business at this location in this small town? -They need to put 10 pin in there -Unfortunately, everyone says that they spent a lot of time there over the years, but in reality, other than league bowlers, there was limited business. The odd birthday party, a fundraiser once in a while, the odd lane of open bowling. It was one of the largest bowling lanes in the area, with 20 lanes, which came with large expenses too. The building is aging, the mechanical is aging, the electrical is aging... -That’s what I thought. It was empty a lot. Same as our local movie theatre people would drive passed it to Brampton. -Ok for a long time bowled Tuesday and Wednesday woman's league and Friday night mixed league with my Husband. -Yes folks if we ever get a Bowling Alley and Movie Theatre back please keep in back IF YOU DO NOT USE THEM, YOU LOSE THEM :) -it is that simple. I know as a former business owner. -Beside Dee Dee they already said the closing wasn't due to money issues -I thought they renovated and got behind on the rent and the owner locked them out -...it is a court proceeding now. -Who was the Canadian Womens 5 pin champion from Georgetown? -Julie McCorry during my time. But Marg Bratkin and her daughter were both very good bowlers too. -Marg Bratkin that is who I knew for a while, she won a mustang car. I worked with her for a short time, real nice lady. -Charlene McCormack -Charlene and Marg Bratkin were the two top female bowlers. -I played in a league in my teens -Loved getting a strike on a gold pin. Free game! Didn’t happen often. -YOU need some thing else in there to keep people there and spend /bowling alone dont last long [your in play then go ]that is not very good -Used to go there with Ken Diamond and the boys years ago. -Anything in the form of entertainment is greatly needed! -I attended that school from k-5 was an amazing group of staff in the 90s. Dad still lives across the street and now my little one visits 😊
-I was in grade 5 at Harrison when the extension was built. Room 9. Mrs modern. -1971 -1973 -1969-1974 -1962-1968 (I think) I repeated Grade 5.It went to Grade 6 back then and Grade 7 & 8 was at Centennial. -we sure played a lot of that game with the elastics tied together on that black top lol -Great memories! I remember running, skipping, hopping to school-never walked on the sidewalk, it was too boring! Now, that is the best I can do, is walk. When the rink went in, I put my skates on at home and skated down the sidewalk-nobody salted or sanded anything! -Same here lol -1964-1970 -My self and brothers and sister went there. All of our kids went there also. Lived real close.I remember running home for recess a few times.lol -On the first day Harrison opened, we (Mrs. Nellie Gardiner's grade one class) walked from Wrigglesworth (where we had been doing "shifts", because it was so over-crowded) to our brand new, fresh smelling school !! -Went to that school. -1962 -68 my K was Miss Rudy (?) -All 5 of us Tassone kids went from K to 5, loved Mrs Nelson -1966-1971 -Miss Rudy was my kindergarden teacher, then Mrs Brooks? Miss Norton/Mrs. Harrison (she got married during grade 3). Miss Fox, Mr. Shantz, Mr. Gushulak. -I had scary Mrs Ruddel for 1, then we were back together for either 2 or 3 but I can’t remember which one, I had Carol Lane in the portable for one of them, Mrs Pedwell for 4 , back with you for 5 then Mr Homer for 6, but the principal Mr McDonald would also come in and teach. We moved with Plax to Burlington mid way through. -Sounds like the same group I had at that School. I think the principle of the day was Mr Knapper? Not sure if that is spelled right but he had a reputation for being nasty -I had Mr McDonald but I’m not sure -I cannot remember the name of the principal, I surprised myself remembering all my teachers! I think it was Mr. McDonald. -I think you guys are right, Knapper may have been before him or he may have been the vice principle. I think in those days it was the vice that was in charge of discipline for all the bad eggs lol -Went to that school too and so did my sons. Miss Armstrong kindergarden, miss brooks, Mr. Shantz , Mr Gushulak, Miss Hopkins . I only had to walk past 2 houses to get to school, lived at 79 Rexway. -yes it was mr macdonal -Isn't it funny that I had Miss Rudy for kindgergarden and you had Miss Armstrong-I guess Miss Rudy had enough after she had me! -I went there. Had Logan MacDonald as a teacher and principal. Now I'm living in his old house. -Went there from 1965 to 1970 had Mrs Armstrong as my kindergarten teacher. -did you know she went on to be the principal of Harrison? She was principal during my daughters time there...1990 - 1995 I think -She was a nice lady. -yes, she sure was, even as the principle -61 to 66 -Great school I had a lot of laughs there! -Your brother and I were in the same class -Mrs Preston was the kindergarten. Teacher she is a member of knox church and I was amazed that she remembered me and both my brothers -(Bodnar) Kindergarten to Grade 6 from 1960. Lived across the street from the school, Mrs Dunlop, Miss Norton, Mr. Schantz, Ms. James, Dave Shrubsole. Dave Shrubsole was a "new" breed of teacher, who brought experiential learning to the classroom...what a fun year! -I remember that. We circled our desks -We built a teepee outside, we did folk-dancing, and we went on a long hike somewhere in town...we all had to learn to play the recorder. This was all very revolutionary at the time! -And Mr Schantz used to make me bend over at the front of the class, and he would whack me across the ass with the yard stick, or make me do push-ups in the aisle. Kinda kinky! -I saw Dave a few years ago. He knew me instantly. He was a great teacher. Vera McDonald and Dave Shrubsole. Were my 2 favourite teachers. And I didn’t like school haha 😁👍 -Was that the same Ms. James who taught at GDHS? It wasn't very common to use "Ms." back then. -1956 and moved to Wrigglesworth -What year was that Linda. Both Rod and Christine went there. School board started them at Howard wrigglesworth where I went and I protested. We were 1 block away from Harrison. They changed and let them go to Harrison. A few kids on Carole also went to Harrison. I was lunch lady there. -I think '57? -Ahh yes. ....Harrison School. I remember Mr. Schantz he always wore desert boots. So long ago..... -Hush puppies 😁 -Yes and he always called me Wilma -I went to Harrison was afraid to death of the principal he would go ssssoooo red in the face fun times had a teacher there he would read a story every Friday afternoon and the best was the creamation of Sam Magee looked so forward to his stories -Mr. Henry? - He was the first one, then Mr. Knapper -ah yes Mr Henery red headed man thank you -Bounced between Harrison and Wriggelsworth. Good times -1976 mrs Ringrose kindergarten teacher mr Allen principal -Me too !!! 😊 -Me too! -Me four? -Started in grade 1...Mrs Reed, Mrs Cathrae, Mrs Reid, Mr Bairstow and Mr Shier, loved that school! -Me too -We were in every class together ! -Daughter went to kindergarten there in 1968,Jill Blair was her teacher, lived across the road at 50 Rexway Drive before we moved to the Glen -I grew up right across the street at #56 and went to Harrison from K to 5. Mr. Shrubsole was my favourite. My mom sold the house about 5 years ago, so in a way Harrison was in my life for 46 years! -My brothers and I all went there. Always walked home for lunch. -Lived on Hale Drive and spent a lotta summer break hangin out on the basketball court... -I went there for grade 2. Mrs Vincent was the teacher I think -Went to Harrison from 1961-1968. Made some great friends. Mr. Homer in Grade 6 was great teacher. -I lived at 37 Rexway 3rd grade Mrs Lane 4th grade Mrs Brooks 5th grade Mrs Pedwell and grade 6 Mr Homer vice principal also Mr McDonald principal for Math. Mr Harrison was the music teacher once a week and I hated it!! Couldn't sing worth sh..t!! -Mr Harrison was my piano teacher and I was his last student upto the time he passed away. He was very special to me -Mr Pinkerton -Stumbled across it one day off trail when i lived on 5th line
-My hubby (Mike Tyler) and his dad used to race there. I have a picture somewhere and a box of flipping trophies! -Oh cool used to go there as a young teen watch my friends brother race his go cart! Sweet -Pretty sure I remember going to watch Steve Deforest race there.. -It was one of my father's secret hobbies. I'm not sure he didn't actually belong to the rifle club near there and just tell us he was going go-carting. -Think it was on the 5th line in lime house? Yep go cart racing on Saturday nights -Yes that’s the one I went there in the late 70s I was about 13 and 14 so around 74/75... it was a blast ...( went from spectator to scoring ) the races with my friend and her Family! Very exciting times! Cool to hear it’s still there.. -Fun times in Georgetown!!!😁 -Used to drive my cart there. it was right near Toronto International dragway in Limehouse. To bad both are long gone |
