-I remember when Gord Collins had his business there, I think it was a Texaco station.
-Where's Tino
-Tino is the owner.
-I remember the day Pete first introduced us in High School. I probably haven't seen Tino in 35+ years?
-TIno and Sharel are the owners my mistake!
-was a Esso at one time too
-Still have our cars emissions tested there.
-It was Jake's Auto Clean for awhile

Hoddinott's House on Charles Street

-I spent so much time there in my early childhood years.
-Yah, it is a beautiful house with so much room inside. I think I went inside once or twice
-Once or twice that's all? I was there often playing in the cubbies and skating ect.
-No Aluminium siding -
-Lovely looking Home. Went on a House Tour when they had them back in the day.
-The Trotters house, I lived across the street basically grew up in that house
-Just down the street where my mom lived on Orchard
-I babysat for the Hoddinots and the house was beautiful but creepy. And they had two Dobermans that sat and watched me all evening. Not my favorite place to babysit.
-Creepy! 😱
-I babysat the kids too!
-that picture of the old man on the stair landing creeped me out. It was like he was watching you. Lol
-Wasn't it a picture of his father?
-I have no idea. But it was about 5 ft square oil-based painting. Mostly black with white haired old man. I thought it was an antique even then. Was well done but he watched you as you came up and down. Lol
-If I recall the Hoddinotts did major renovations to the home including the kitchen/ living space to the area at the back. Aside from the formal spaces these areas were comfy and lived in.
-Funny how it is still known as the "Hoddinots house", but the Trotter family lived there from ~1994 until just recently - 25 years. During their tenure it was far from creepy. Beautifully decorated and maintained by a great family.
-Small world....have'nt lived in Gtown for over 30 years, flying home from Spain 3 weeks ago....who was sitting next to me...."The Trotters" !!

-That house is beautiful, I had the pleasure of doing some Open Houses there when the Trotters were selling it. Such nice people and the house was kept beautifully.
The new owners are lucky to have it.
-Wasn't it the Bell house at one time. They had horses. Remember the daughter had a horse and carriage in a parade in town. Horse spooked at corner of Mill and Guelph. In the 50s maybe.
-it used to be the Bells farm yrs ago , they kept there horses in the back

-I remember when the house was showcased on the Christmas Tour of Homes. I can't imagine the weeks that it took the Hoddinotts to prepare for it as it was always over the top!
-Wish it would be added again to the showcase tour. Would love to see how it’s decorated now.

-In 1962, that was the Bell home. I was 16 and entranced by Ellen. Her older sister, Brenda, I think was a GDHS cheerleader.
Was there an older brother, David?
Ellen was seriously into horses and riding. I believe she may still teach riding near Stratford. She attended the 2007 Homecoming, and is still a beautiful woman.
I met Mr. Bell once, but vividly recall his visit to the kitchen at about 1:30 am, where he demonstrated his drumming abilities on a variety of pots and pans to subtly remind us that it was definitely time for me to go home!
-I'd love to metal detect on that property. Guaranteed good finds!
-I remember it being the Bell house went to school with the daughter
-It was and still is one of my favourite houses in G'town

-In a great part of town...
-I used to have a customer called Fram Oil Filters in Stratford Ontario. By per luck I had the pleasure of meeting Ellen Bell. Ellen was one of the brightest engineers I ever worked with. She had a great career with Fram for approximately 10 years and we worked together on several projects. Ellen always had fascinating stories to tell. The one that i really enjoyed was when she came to Georgetown to visit her parents house when Mr. Hoddinott was giving one of his Christmas tours. He was very proud of The front door which he claimed was installed at the turn of the century. During the tour Ellen spoke up and mentioned to him that her father installed the door in the early 50's at which point the tour was cancelled.
-what beauty to be admired
-I remember boyd and Jane's home , it was actually on the Xmas tour of homes one year. Jane Hoddinott was actually a great decorator and designer!
-Dr. Hoddinot was my doctor. Something about his eyes!
-Nice to have been in Georgetown!

tellers in banks and cashiers at local stores etc,,
How lucky have you been to have been in Georgetown.
-Went to the U.S. of A. to line his pockets!
-Dr Hoddinott was my doctor for many years. Delivered my first. The 2nd came a bit quicker, one of school colleagues delivered her. Small world. Always love the house and think of him when I pass it

Dairy Queen

-Maybe im wrong but i would have thought Baz Motors building would be seen to the right based on how far this photo was to the right as welll
-This one is very special, for 26 years me and my mom had lunch and watched the Santa Claws Parade. It was the best and only tradition we had and never missed a time.
-Love this pic. So many memories came flashing
-Just talking about Dog and Sudds yesterday , they should bring it back.
-Does Georgetown have an A&W in a different location? I used to work at the old A&W now gone.
-yes.. there's actually 2 now.. one down the further down the highway and one in the south
-I remember when they tore down Dog & Suds to build the McDonald's. I was about 4 years old.

-Many visits to the DQ back then !!!
-I worked there one summer & made $1.00 an hour !!! 😀
-What year was that? I’m sure I made $2.15
-late sixties- guess I’m much older than you!! 😂
-Paid 1.00 an hour early seventies as a training rate. First pay was 3.00...I still have at least one of those bills.
-I remember lines outside and around the building on those hot summer nights. Now we can eat inside, and enjoy a Flame Thrower.
-One of my best memories as a kid was running errands with my dad and the car would go out of control and ‘magically’ take us there for an ice cream,
-This was my first job in 1984 making $2.35 an hour. Best time of my life, best girlfriends as well. r
-Best after school job ever. Some of my best memories from G'town come from my DQ days!! Meeting Lynda Black was key: she even taught me to drive after our summer shifts ended at 11 pm!
-Remember it well !!
-Remember the Texaco station as well.
-Mr Lloyd use to own it, a very nice man.

-what is the place with the canopy thing beside the car wash.. i know Dogs and Suds was there but dont remember the canopy thing

-Wow, such a treat going to either Dogs N Suds or DQ as a youngster. I remember DQ used to close for a portion of the winter.

-I used to walk there from Harrison school in grade 5. And sit on the ledge. That’s when they give you the paper number even if no one was there.
-I used to live in the corner house on Prince Charles and Rexway, one day i found a bag of money and peanut buster parfait coupons in our big maple tree out front, when i turned it in to the owner, turns out they were robbed and i guess they threw the paper bag up the tree to come back for it later, my reward........ a free peanut buster parfait lol
-Was just there last week and had a laugh with the staff about the fact that 45 years ago I worked there....wow....how time flies.
-Did you work for Elmer Lloyd.
-Didn't he own both the Georgetown and Brampton stores?
-I don't know if he owned them at the same time but yes he did.

Kentner's Catering / Steen's Dairy

-The banana ice cream was my fav!

-Where is this area?
-Mill street and guelph.
-I see Maw's store on the corner. Candy cigarettes and. LOT'S of other candy.
-Is this across Mill from Carpet barn?
-yes
-I remember Ma's, best candy sold use cigarettes 3 for a dime, all part of going to Georgetown high
-It used to be Maple Leaf Dairy. My grandfather owned it. 😊
-Went there for lunch often when it was Steens Dairy.
-Way back....late 40s; and in the 50s
-I recall an ice cream parlour; replete with weirdo coconut shell carvings. Heads/masks, I've never understood some decor of places? I did however like the rare ice cream treat and I remember liking the old guy who ran the place (large belly :)).
-swimming at the outdoor pool then a stop a Jeans
-Your home, outdoor pool and Jean's all on the same street practically. Lol...
-Kentner's dairy bar.
-Maureen worked there for a few summers!
-My first job about 1961. Loved their ice cream 😊

Robb's Drugs / Young's Pharmacy

-And was Young's first location, if I remember correctly.
-One of the things I remember from Young's, as a kid, is the glass display case they had with different types of peanuts. Lots of people used to go in there to pay their phone bills at the back. We also usually got films developed there.
-And when the post office moved, you could buy stamps, like you can now at Shoppers Drug Marts.
-They also cashed pay cheques after work because in those days the banks hours were not very convenient. Always worried if I was in a line up if they’d run out of cash when I got to them. 🤓
-Georgetown Thai is THE best in town, never disappointed. Always delicious, fresh ingredients...so yummy! And No i dont work there 🤣
-We paid our phone bill there. Mrs. Harris worked the counter.
-I remember when it was Young's drugstore also other drug stores downtown was Kentners and McCormicks hard to think there was at one time three
-Anyone taking photos then went to the drug stores to have their photos developed and printed too and wait 3 -5 days to see the results.
-Which building had the fish and chips place and the clothing store and Joe's tuck shop
-I lived On main street for a bit in an apartment above these places
-Wow a Thai! I used to work there when it was Young’s. First worked as a cashier and then in the dispensary. Still keep in touch with the family. So many fond memories.

Cross Street Apartments

-Doc Mac's office
-Aunt Chris and Uncle Earl Hornby lived in corner apartment for many years and Mom Hayes and Mrs Davidson once lived up stairs
-It was cream coloured stucco in the day.
-I Remember Grey Stone....
-My brothers in laws had a flower shop there yrs ago Pauline flowers
-Pauline and Bud Buckwall. Nice people.
-My mom lived in that building for a few years think it was called Norton apartments owned by Al Norton
-You are right Sandra Pauline & Bud were great people
-Believe your Mom was friends at one time with My Aunt and Uncle they lived on the first floor

-Our Grandma Curtis lived there when we were young.
-I didn't know that!
-Now you do.
-What monstrosity is being built at the other end of Cross St? Too big!!
-Pretty big for a house but small for an apartment —-we have been trying to figure it out —- poor Mrs Harding had such nice gardens there she would be horrified
-Heard it was going to be for three families ugliest building I ever saw.
-Pauline was in the Georgetown Girls Pipe Band years before I joined.
Walked by this building many a time.
-Dr. Mac had his office here for a few years
-Are you talking about Dr MacIntosh? Loved him. Got a great story, he was interning in Dundee, Scotland in 1952 and brought my husband into the world, 3 years later he delivered me in Guelph, Ontario. We were meant to be!
-Doctor Macintosh was the best he brought my daughter into the world and Doctor Brewster brought my son into the world. They shared the same office until Dr. Brewster moved to Guelph.
-Dr. Macintosh and Dr. Ruffin were also my parents Dr.’s then Dr. Ruffin also moved to Guelph. We moved to Guelph the year after Dr. brewster did and he became our family Physician and Surgeon. Wonderful Dr.’s, now 2 of them gone. May they RIP.
-Remember Dr. Mac's office was there when I was pregnant with my daughter Ron and I would walk down from Queen street
-Building still owned by Ross & Terry Norton.

Meadow Glen Mushroom Factory

-Hard to believe.I drove a coffee truck one summer when I was 17 and that was my best call.
-And fresher air!
-lots of good smells blew from there
-Nothing like fresh manure to clear the sinuses
-One of my first jobs, needed money for Christmas
-I remember the smell when we lived in the Glen always seemed to blow downhill
-I worked there for a couple of months and hated it!
-John Street got the smells when there was a fire!
-I work there with, Herb Wild, back in 1958…
-I used to drive taxi and these lads from the factory would pile into my car like a college prank, 8-10 of them on each other’s laps...and I’d take them to, and eventually back from from the tavern.
No amount of cologne could make them smell right.
-My brother Bill Norton worked there until they moved to Rockwood.
-one of the streets named after after HERB Wild who worked there for a long time he lost his life while trying to catch a thief
-Yes, the street beside the park is Herb Wild - I didn't know that story, thanks for sharing

Churchill Cres

-Great place to grow up. Still see a few of the original war time houses. Slowly being taken over by progress.
-Most of my siblings were born on Churchill until we moved to Ewing st
-Those war time homes were unique.
-I moved from Georgetown to the Smiths Falls area and its like you picked up Normandy Blvd and put it on Roosevelt and Churchill in Smithfalls. Same homes same Blvds
-I spent my younger days here.
-I walked that route everyday to school in the 60's There was a corn field behind one part of Churchill and a bush on the other. We would cut through the bush to get to school.
-The short cut to school through the bush, a daily trek I remember too!!
-They used to call this the Orchard because my brother Larry and his friends played there.

Main Street House

-Was this not Doc McAllisters place?
-I remember Dr McAllister living there in the late 50/early 60s til he died
-I always though Dr. Greenglass owned this place
-is it right beside the church (cant remember lol)

-then yes McAllisters...mmm grapes ;-)

-Awhile back this was an antique store bought a couple of things there, beautiful old home, wonder who first lived there or built the house
-I remember in the early 70s or late 60s Jerry Steringa and his wife living there
-Yes Mari , I remember that as well...Kenny Morrow lived there at the same time , there were two apartments in that house back then ...
-People building and living in stone houses had money in those days. That was high end real estate.

Queen Street

-My old playgrounds
-Did you really play there !!
-Not so much on that street. But knew everyone. Was the old hood.
-I see the home I grew up in and my best friends home.
-Yes May and it was right beside my grandma Ritchie's house.
-the house on the corner was my great aunt Audrey Martin until she passed away in 2002
-Remember Audrey as she lived next door to the Ritchie house!
-Not sure but that house must be closing in on 100 yrs old
-aunt Audrey and grandpa were born in that house if i'm not mistaken
-not sure what year Audrey was born, dad was born in 1925
-she was born in1918 i just looked it up
-Oh to be able to step back to simpler times.
-Ron and I first apartment upstairs in a beautiful old home
-It's great to see these homes where pride of ownership is out for all to see!
-I remember walking up that street to get to King Street were my sister still lives.
-Still miss all the beautiful Maple trees that were cut down......Your photo was taken from the corner of McNabb and Queen.......we lived one block to the right! ......on the corner of McNabb and Albert!<3
-The Norton live in the Richie home now and gave done an amazing job of restoration and additions.
