-Old Becker’s and salon marcel
-And you were my hairdresser there! LOL
-You were my mom's hairdresser Brenda and you gave me the Farrah Fawcett look at age 16! Julie Wray from Stockman Cres.
-I do remember you and I did do your mom Hair for yrs lovely lady
-That’s right. Forgot about the salon.
-Before that it was Carmen’s Coiffure
-Its such a dump now as far as the convenience store is.
-Would that be the Beckers we used as kids?
-Yes sir
-Cool. Lots of walks there for goodies and errands for milk.
-We certainly did a lot of that. I still remember the snack pack of hostess potato chips when they were paper-foil.
-Then those grape, orange, etc potato chips!
-Those were crazy flavours.
-Old days. When Oma and Opa visited they'd send me to get smokes. Not sure now why I didn't just cross the road to "The Smoke Shop" tho.
-I remember hanging the milk jug from my handle bar. One time it ripped off when i crossed Comset Gate and splat! I went back and the man gave me another jug for free. Whew!
-Old school curbing without ramps on sidewalks were hard on a boys bicycle.
-Were they not rounded curbs when we were very young before they changed to square?
-I remember half and half, but I know the corners weren't accessible. Man I killed a lot of back rims.
-What! My sisters first job. Such an iconic landmark-ish in the hood.
-I used to live just down Delrex from the Becker’s
-I remember Mr. Kim the owner from the 70’s and Carmen’s hairdresser. Fun fact: when I was 7 years old, I could walk down with a note from my father and buy a pack of smokes. Sometimes I could even spend the change... LOL
-Same here.
-Yep same here
-me too...lol
-So basically all our fathers were to lazy to pick up their smokes and made us kids to do it... LOL
-lol...:)
-Use to work at Carmen's Coiffure. One of my first jobs.
-Hi Tammy, you may have been the one to do my hair for my prom in 1988. I’m sure the lady was named Tammy 🙂
-Great memory It would have been about the right time but wrong Tammy. There were two of us so I used my initials T-J. The other Tammy was much more experienced than I was at that time.
-Ahh, ok. Yeah that was about 40 *gulp* years ago.. LOL
-30 lol we're not that old!
-thank God your math is better than mine... LOL
-My sister sue and I worked there for 3-4 years in the 70's, sold a lot of popsicles and cigarettes
-I lived just around the corner in Sherman Court in the 80's
-We used to live on Irwin. We’d get our hair cuts from Donna at the salon. And we’d walk to Becker’s with our 25c allowance to buy a chocolate bar.
-I remember you as a child Rona. We went to Canada with Bob and Jackie early 80,s. Our children are Sarah and Mike, do you remember us? Hope Mom, Dad and and your brother are well.
-I don’t recall, but I have a bad memory! Mom and Dad and Graham are still in the area, but live in the Glen now.
-Lived on Delrex at Dawson. Moved to G’town in 69 and the Becker’s store was there. Walked down to Becker’s all the time.
-I grew up around the corner on Dawson Cres and made many, many trips to the old Becker's store as a kid. I think the Asian family that ran it at one point had the last name "Kim", easy to remember my name! So many popsicles, chips, chocolate bars and cans of pop were purchased by me and my friends during our pre-teen and teen years. I remember you could buy a can of pop and a bag of chips for 25 cents!
-I remember going to Beckers as a kid age 7 or 8 with a note to buy smokes for my mom and 15 years later getting my hair done at Carmens for my wedding, seems like a life time ago!
-How do so many people know their name was Kim? I couldn't tell you another cornerstone owners name if I tried 😁
-Georgetown was so much smaller back then. If you didn’t know someone, you knew someone who did... LOL
-My old hood!
-becker's is a good memory! :)
-Was there not a hair salon left side. I swear early 90s I had my hair done beside Beckers
-Yes, Carmens
-Ahhh Beckers and 5 cent popsicles!
-Old stompin' grounds! Good ole beckers, right at the end of our street Irwin cres!
-Best dentist ever is now part of this building
-Manys a walk from Greystone Cres. to Beckers for candy as a kid.
