-I have not been nor seen in the past 20 years
-all stores closed by 6 p.m and the parking lot was where I learned how to drive. My dad would not let me drive there. he got out the pylons and made me do figure 8's backwards and learned how to park, 1972 ahhhh memories
-it went from loblaws to the greek restaurant
-That use to be my Grandfather's farm until he retired and sold it.
-I used to walk my dog in the field behind Sargent Rd (50's, 60's) and recall a lilac lined driveway from Mountainview (on the right, facing south) approximately where now is the church, and ((I think) pumping station. The house had been torn down and I now regret not snooping around the remains - would that have been your grandparents' home?-lots of great memories....-.making the trek up to the field across from the plaza and watching all the Christmas Trees burn in a big ass old bonfire......I remember people would put potatoes in to roast......and that damn Planets Peanut Man......scared the hell outta me, anyone else remember those good old days????
-I remember going to one in 1967. I thought it was a Centennial event, I didn't realize it was an annual event.
-It was.......my memories of this event go a little before 1967.....times were so much simpler then......
-I sure remember we used to walk a path to the plaza which is now the parking lot
-I remember the path to the plaza. Since we lived on Gower Court we walked and road our bikes on it all the time.
-Sadly I remember when a path was not needed.......there was nothing to have a path for.......
-My dad was the caretaker at the plaza in the 60s and I don't remember this bonfire. Maybe I just have a bad memory. Which field across from plaza? Maybe across the highway and it was a town thing? I do remember the path, lived on Raylawn
-..across the highway in the farm field.....probably was a town thing
-planters peanut man, was he some sort of mascot for the christmas tree burning, is burning trees some kind of hobby of his?
-I remember that bonfire. it was in the east end of the plaza where the pavement became gravel as I recall.
-I don't recall the tree fires at all, guess it was on the side of the plaza I couldn't see from my bedroom window. Peanut man was in the parade
-I only remember the one fire. Dec 31 1966, Jan I 1967.
-Don't recall tree fires either...and agree with Janice on the Peanut man
-I remember Mayor Joseph Gibbons speaking at the start of it. He said it would be the first of many Centennial events.
-That's awesome.. Never heard of this before .. pics would be cool
-Well I do remember it was at the lot beside the plaza on year before the centennial fire I also lived on Gower road and I remember walking up there with my sister in a stroller trying to push it through the snow so I am thinking January 1965
-Faded memories as we get older........
-Older who😀 this site just keeps us young!
-oh gosh, I had forgotten all about that!
thanks for reminding me.
-So now I am thinking it was January 1966 as John said then at Centennial park in 1967
-The Christmas tree burning at the Plaza was on Saturday Jan 14 1967.
-Thanks John was that the only one at the plaza?
-I only remember the one.
-Yes it was fun 😊
-I think we are all talking about the same bonfire......everyone has their own memories of 50 years ago......I was sure it was across Guelph St in the farmers field but I could be wrong......the main thing is we all can still remember it no matter what version our minds have!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Thought it was near the plaza.closer to sinclair
-Yes and there were burning trees and hot chocolate
-I CAME TO GEORGETOWN AFTER FINISHING HIGH SCHOOL IN 1955 THAT WAS MY FIRST JOB (i worked for rex heslop and got loned out to DOUG BRANDER to drive tractor)
-wow...i so remember playing in all those fields as a kids...had forts even like the kids like to do
-mountainview which was called the 9th line then...along the back of the plaza
-the plaza was in the middle of #7 and Mountainview Road... lived and my parent still live there on Campbell Gate since 1956 so I know what road it is...the 9TH LINE THEN...We played in all the fields and watched the plaza being built and had to cross Mountainview to get to the plaza
-Anyone remember a hula hoop Contest at the Plaza parking lot?
-Such a good memory .😊💜
- I personally don't remember that Keith .. but I had a Hula Hoop in 1958 .. :) ..
-Smitty's and a Pool place where there before Shoppers is that right
-was that not Bellamy's restaurant, and G&S television and stereo at one time in that building on Sinclair?
-That whole area used to be my Grandfather's farm at one time
Where the Goeorgetown mall is , is where the barns use to stand , But the Farm house still stands it is a small condo I am told
