Lynn McLaren was my former father in law and beyond being well loved as a teacher at GDHS and Vice Principal at Acton High School, he played high level baseball as a pitcher in both Winnipeg and Timmins (Porcupine) in his 20s and in one game fanned 19 batters. I think he was given a tryout for an MLB farm team, but decided to pursue his real passion of teaching, which he says was an extremely rewarding career. I read countless letters that Lynn received from former students and parents, which truly validated his career choice.

I played football for Mr. McLaren in his first 2 years at GDHS. He was, and is, my favourite teacher. I remember that he seemed to just quietly expected us to do our best. He was, for me, a real role model - a model that I've certainly fell short of.
