-Been there many times when my kids were young. They even used to let you run an account.
-Eric and I would ride our bikes up the 5th to get a little paper bag filled with penny candy, then go sit on the big rock beside the road just down the hill from the ballpark to eat it. Great childhood growing up there, great memories! ❤️
-This was the hub of the Village in my day. If we needed bologna for lunch off we went to Benton's and picked up mail at the same time. Mrs Benton sent home ginger ale for me when I had my tonsils removed. Nothing but fond memories of that family and the General Store.
-I agree. Remember them giving us the big metal signs (collectible now) which we would bend at the end and slide down the hill in the snow. Best toboggan ever!
-Yes, we would walk over to toboggan on that hill after dinner sometimes before bed.
-It was also the post office.
-Many good times buying candy here
-What great memories for us too xx
-Great memories for me too. Bentons always sent gingerale and other things home when someone was sick. We lived at the top of the other hill by the tracks. Always went sleigh riding down those hills. Those metal signs were great toboggans. When I got to be a teenager and was out in the evening, I cud always rely on Mr. Benton to know what time I got home cause he would mention it as soon as I went into the store. Small town stuff...the good old days. Lots of memories. Another memory is a time when my best friend Margaret and I were having a water fight in the summer and we ran into the store and got some ice cold water out of the cooler that kept all the pop cold. Mr Benton just looked at us and shook his head
-we bought the house beside the tracks The Maltby boys sure had fun there
-When Limehouse had the 150th we went up the hill to look at the house. It seemed so much smaller than we remembered .would love to see inside and reminisce.
-Me too! I have stood on the road outside our house and so much wanted to knock on the door but did not!
-I had a Mrs. Glenda Benton as my Kindergarten teacher at Limehouse..
Didn't Scott's own the store in the 70's?
-There were two stores when I grew up there in the 50’s. Joe Scott’s and Benton’s.
-Mrs Glenda Benton was Miss Quinton when she came to Limehouse just out of teachers college. She boarded across the road from us at the Kirkpatrick house and we used to peek out the upstairs window when she was dating her soon to be husband Bert Benton! 😂
-Did Delia Gaskill Caldwallader run a store when she was there? Post office?
-Yes she did. She had it for a few years.
-She sure did and I worked there when she owned it.
-lived right beside the store when we moved to Limehouse in 1982. Perfect place for our kids to grow up. Used to love going there for ice cream on a summer afternoon.
-I used to live right beside the store
-Limehouse was the best place to grow up!!!
-Scott's store was down the street by the corner leading to the station
-yes mom wouldn't let us go there because he sold bubble gum and for some reason she thought it was something dangerous to chew lol....Mrs Benton wouldn't sell bubble gum.
-We lived next to Scott's the CN road between us, it was 22 Newton Street, we lived there in the mid 80s. Nice house there now it was completely renovated and a huge ad on and free standing garage :)
-I Lived On The Hill Across From The Store, They Only Got Water After My Tank Was Full From The Spring !!
-have I asked you before when you lived there? poor memory lol..we lived in the Ivanhoe house for many years
-1980;s Eliza...
-we lived there in 57-58, grade 1 & 2 in the old 2 room school house.
-I think I went to school with your sister? I remember a Yates. And your mom was Beth?
-Ellen was my sister, we were bussed to Holy Cross in G-town, so ellen went there for grades 1,through 6 (I think, then to Park School) GDHS after that. beth IS our Mother.
-I just remember her coming up to our house to play and remembered your mom’s name because she was the only other person I knew with the same name as me
-OMG so many memories riding my bike from our farm to play baseball in Limehouse. Then bike over to the general store go buy something cold to drink. I can still see that store in my mind :)
-Drive by your place today and thought of taking a picture to send to you
-Loved that village, lived just up and across the street from Bentons, Burt married our Teacher Miss Quentin from the old 2 room school house. Lefrinks right across the street from us. We had the outdoor drive-in Country and Western Concert every Sunday ? night at Scotts right next door. Johnny Lefrink and I cleared (burned) all the land where the new public school was built, 1957-58? Boy there was a "whooopen"! Traded homes with the Arnold family and moved back to town on Henry St.
-My parents bought that house from Arnolds and tbey moved to Georgetown. We moved from the house on the hill by the tracks. Maltbys bought our house and we moved to the Arnold house. The country and western show cud be heard all over the village.
-I remember lying in bed and listening to it.
-I remember you having a 4-H sleepover in that house. It was so big. Fun days.
-Yes we had a few of those. Fun times. Sorry Lois but I dont recognize yr last name
-was your maiden name Karn. Lois, Marilyn and mine was Kirkwoood. We took 4-H in Limehouse with you guys.
-I thought maybe that was your maiden name. Nice to hear from you. Do u still live in the Limehouse Georgetown area
-Yes, we all have lived in Halton Hills area all these years.
-We were good friends with Earl, Glad, Trudy and Gary. Looked after the business one time so they could go on holiday.
-Very cool! I wonder where in Limehouse that was.
-The show was directly across from the general store. The house was way back from the road so cars cud drive in and park in the yard.
-Right next door to "Ivanhoe" !
-and we could listen from our house.
-It was a joy reading these posts! Though it was before my time, I love hearing stories of the good old wholesome fun children and families had back in their day. I wish things never changed. How to get that back?!
