-Why did they ever move this house to McIntyre Cres, it just does not fit in there.
-The house was always there it was the original farmhouse the house were built around it.
-No this house was originally where Alcott arena is
-No, Dr. MacIntosh's house was moved from Alcott.
-Haydn is correct..my mother's an RN at Georgetown Hospital looked after the original owner of the farmhouse in the 70's ..
-This was the original location for the farm house
-its the McIntyre farmhouse intact the farmhand house was moved to the corner of prince Charles and rexway.
-they say it is haunted? lol
-I didn't find that it was haunted when i lived there
-I wish they would save the old farm houses in the new developments. There’s one on Mary, Ewing and Harold.
-Only problem is either nobody wants to take on the restoration challenge or it gets deemed historical and makes it incredibly difficult to get permits to do any work
-I live on McIntyre
-Me too 😉
-I'm sure that's the house my husband's cousin and her family lived in about 50 years ago. They had an apartment there.
-that is the original farmhouse (Heslop's ??). It was turned into apartments and then into condos. Other than the ugly staircases it is a beautiful home and kept well maintained.
-Heslop was from toronto and didn’t farm here. He was just the developer if that area. The original Heslop home was torn down years ago and was at the end of what is now Heslop Court
-Thanks for the input Haydn. I am not sure who the house belonged to. We bought our home on McIntyre 46 years ago ( it was 35 years old at the time) and were told the big old house around the corner was the original farmhouse and sat on the land McIntyre was built on.
-Neil just told me that this is the original McIntyre farmhouse. That is why the street is called McIntyre Crescent.
-My parents were original owners of house across from the farm house. They were told when they brought that the farm house was to be torn down and park created there.
-it was rented as apartments. Then renovated and sold as condos
-That is true. The residents at McIntyre formed a committee and tried to get everyone to donate money to take it down and turn it into a parkette. We had TONS of kids living on the street at the time. Not enough people were interested so it fell through. Now that I am older, I am glad it didn't and the history remains.
-before the houses were built, the buyers were told that the farm house was to be torn down.
-I know it was going to be tor. Down but somebody said they moved it to that site which of course it didn’t. I remember the first time I saw that house it does look strange with all the bungalows wrapped around
-it was never moved to that site it was built there, the only house moved on to McIntrye was Dr MacIntosh's that was his office as well for years and it came from where the Alcott (Moldmasters) Sportplex) now stands is that correct Bud Hayes I believe he helped move it :)
-my niece owns the house on the corner of prince Charles and rexway it’s the only wooden house. And was moved for macintyre it was the farm hands house and became the sales office for Heslop homes the house is actually backwards.
-Rex Heslop only bought and developed land, in Rexdale first then Georgetown. It was the sales office in its day too. I did not know it was moved. The subdivision was just built around it. The farmhouses and grand homes are part of our history.
-that house was never moved it was the original McIntyre farm house (hence the street name, only farm house moved on to McIntyre was the one DR. McINTOSH lived in and had his office for years our family visited his office as he was our family doctor :)
-Thanks, that's what I thought too. I was only little, but don't remember them moving that much. Using what was there worked best. I remember Dad going to the farm where the market centre sits. It was a license office for a while too.
-Which house did you help move from Alcott arena. This one or dr mac’s??
-WE moved the one DR,MAC was in HE & I had talked about many times
-Always looked kind of spooky.
-I used to live on McIntyre.. that's the original farm house and down the street are 3 identical houses different from all the rest.. it's my understanding that they were the farm hands homes or something like that
-The other farm hands houses are on Campbell Gate.
-i didn't know about the farm hands' houses, and I've lived on McIntyre Cres. for 45 years. LOL...head in the sand.
-I've been on McIntyre for almost 50 yrs. When we were kids, we were convinced it was haunted
-I started teaching in town in 1963 and it was there then. Not long after the development began. Sargent Rd. houses had been built the first time I came to town in 1958.
-we always thought it was haunted too... my kids wouldn't trick or treat there
-It is haunted 👻😬
-I lived on the top floor It was a miracle we all survived...
-I lived at 44 McIntyre as a kid, we always thought that place was haunted lol.
-I owned 44 Mac for a few years back in the 80’s!
-Isn't this house the Ried Farmhouse?- lived across the road from the farmhouse
-I think you are right [did not know much about that farm ]
-I lived right across the road growing up. Hard to believe they haven't torn it down to build more houses
-That’s awesome
-The farm house where the Delrex plaza is was also used for a while. The windmill was the plaza sign for a long time after too.
-I always liked that place. 😁👍
-called it the haunted house.
-Growing up on Windsor Road, we used to avoid going near the house as we were told it was 'haunted' lol.....
-Nice
-My uncle Rob had an apt there at one time
-I know that there was a farmhouse there that was the Reids. Not sure how far back, but my family is related to the Reids and I remember my parents talking about the old farm house still standing and the new houses built around it and that was back in the late 50s early 60s. I have not lived in that area for over 40 years but when I am passing thru Georgetown I always wonder if the house is still standing.
-I lived on McIntyre my whole life. That house was always there.
-I also think it was the Reid farm as I remember mr. Reid
-Love this - I remember the house on the Highway property and then it was moved but I can't remember the year ....... it looked so out of place in a brand new subdivision with bungalow homes around it! When we delivered flowers this home stuck out like a sore thumb!! LOL
-My dad and Don burns owned this building many many years ago
-I remember that!
-I was just a child when my dad owned this place and can remember playing there when my dad went to cut the grass....it was apartments then.
-Flashback. Wow. I remember that 🙃
-I lived there for awhile
-are you speaking of Craig Reid? The International Plowing Match was held at his farm one year - it was on the 10th Sideroad that went across from Ashgrove
-the Reids are my distant relatives. They farmed the area of that house before subdivision was built.
-Love to hear all the stories. curious if anyone has a picture of the farm that used to be there?
-The Reids that we were related to were Herb and Leona and think it was Herbs father that had that farm house. So that would have been in the 20s or 30s or 40s. I just remember my parents talking about that subdivision was built on Reid property and the subdivision was built leaving the original farm house
-In that picture it looks like it was already apartments. There's a new door and stairs for fire escape. There used to be a windmill on the left side. It was an abandoned house when I was a kid and we used to play their. My parents bought 33 McIntyre when it was built around 1956. I lived their until I was 20. They sold in the 90s.
-Our Nan king lived there for a few years
-1st apartment on the right Linda in the front door. She was younger then and it's good she was because the bathroom was upstairs. I used to walk around the block and visit her.
-Me too I just came across a picture of me in front of the building, with Nan on the porch.
-I use to run past it, thought it was spooky lol
-Me and my friends used to climb the windmill. Mom used to drive up and catch us and I would be in trouble. That's when the place was abandoned for years
-My Mom used to babysit a family of kids in their home on McIntyre in the early 60's and I had to walk to Harrison school from there - I used to run past it - we were told it was haunted. LOL
-lived there in 80s this pic is newer no steps to 3rd floor then
-I lived in that house
-I lived there for about 5 yrs.1981 until 1986. With a few roommates. There was 2 apts. on bottom floor. 3 apts. Upstairs. Spooky basement. I heard they made more apts. We called it the haunted house.
-It’s now a condo at the time I think it was with 80k or 100 k they sold for. Still an old house
-When i lived there there were only 4 apartments. I was in apartment #4 and it was enormous! I believe they revamped and turned that apartment into 2. The landlord Alex Alexander was horrible at just letting himself in whenever he felt like it. And that scary room downstairs where the fuse boxes were gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
-Oh I remember it well you helped us move in while we helped you move out I was pregnant with Lindsay and you made me stay out of the way and not do a thing Lol and that place was big and cold and scary I remember the shit for a fridge we had and the ass would not replace it I had to keep things cold in the window in the kitchen Lol and used a heater to warm things up to give Lindsay a bath and the basement was terrible the wires were literally hanging there scary shit. We found so old photo albums down there and go figure they were of my old boyfriend and his family and some of his friend Kenny Rutledge I think I tried to give them back but he did not care that was Edgar for you typical french man oh well. I remember the eves trough was falling apart and Alex did a quick fix with of all thing s a hockey stick wow I have dreams of this place of it falling down with us in it and much more. Sad.
