-There are now homes on the YMCA land on the other side of the road too. The remnants of the driveway going into the Halton Cable head end antenneas and the portable school house that was the studio is barely visible, and memories of hiking up the lane because they were too cheap to plow the lane for the people giving their time to give Georgetown "programming".
-I remember going up that lane to the little studio the cable company had to video tape some shows for a thursday night spot..Even did a few live shows from that studio.when the road was widened I think the corner was rounded more if that's the word i'm lookin for,I remember that corner going down the hill as a little more sharper,I guess cause in those days it was just 2 lane if my memory serves me right.funny at 67 years old I wish I could go back in time & see things as they were when I was a boy & a young man....Ken...
-Memories....
-I still have a rural memory of the hill.
-they've paved paradise. Kind of sad really. Small town no more I guess.
-Only in my long term memory.
-Soon it will meet up with Brampton, then Georgetown will just be a suburb
-Debbie.,you grew up in the Glen, was your Mother\s name Ruth, Our mothers were cousins.......Ken Majuery..
-Did that land not belong to U of T at one time ?
-The land was owned by upper Canada college
-thanks close lol
-Upper Canada College had to sell some land to finance their legal defence for some charges or law suits against them from the past...
-They bought the land in 1913 for a summer camp.
-Sure has changed remember the forests there used to see deer
-Part of the forest land belonged to the Upper Canada College then they sold some of it off where the new homes are now
-Those houses on the upper Canada college side was part of the land they sold off
-Last spot of wood lot that served as a reminder of small town now gone and indeed closer to meeting up with peel region. As the say small town Georgetown is in the memories and heart.
-And the busses are next.
-Used to live there at the old Y property
-I recall a trailer park just down the hill
-The trailer park. Willow park is now a park. The top of the hill was always owned by upper Canada college This is just a small piece of there land.
-25 acres to be exact was sold
-I think upper Canada has about 400 acres. Nice property and great for the kids that are fortunate to attend the outdoor school
-I liked the old pine trees better.
-Many years ago there was a small white house on the Y property. Friends of my parents. The scouts from Toronto used to come there in the summer to camp.
-We lived in that, house for four years it was for the maintenance manager of the y who was my mom's uncle. But he didn't need it so we had it and checked up on the camp when he wasn't there
-What was his name Raymond. Our friends name was Ford. Bud I think. They had a terrible tragedy. Mother Margaret was crossing highway 7 and was hit and killed by a car.
-It was ING Jonas might have been after. We were there 1956 to 1960 then we moved to hornby our uncle retired soon after that I think
-What a Shame.
-That is a sad picture. Driving up that hill and being totally engulfed by thick forest on both sides was magic. These houses and lack of trees is sad
-And condos where Hall Road once dropped off into wilderness.
-The road well travelled
-Houses on both sides of the hill now
-Sad
