- Where was this
- Norval
- Looks kind of like the train station end of Victoria St. In G'town might have been year back? Part of the service station still there........
- That was called Canes Garage !
- I remember going down there for air for my bike tire and getting yelled by the old guy that ran the place 🙂wow that was a while back!
- sure was Bob, sometimes he wasn’t to friendly!
- I believe it was where Norval Plumping is now..
- I remember when there was a gas station there, I think it was a White Rose at one time, later Shell.
- Yeppers Norval gas station it is 🙂 and where the Norval plumbing store is now just next door from where John Lee's dads restaurant used to be
- Last I remember ? ...Joe Marchment owned it when it was a White Rose station.in early 50's. Hazen Sherry ran it next when it became a Shell station in early 60's. Keith Ella became the next owner. Roger Little was the last owner to run the Shell as he also started selling trailer and motor homes. Not sure what year (early 1980's ?) when it was remodeled to the existing structure. Not sure of the years of ownership but I do remember the owners from Mr. Marchment and on
- My dad was Reese Witzenhausen and his partner Keith Vandervelde owned the garage before Ron owned it. They called it Noval Auto Service Limited in 63 & 64. Gord Terry was his apprenticeship mechanic. Would you have information or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks John.
- ...the Family is working on sorting through items since moving. I will post what I can find. I'm more than sure, my Dad would have knew your Dad, and his partner as we were there in the 50's
- Hazen Sherry operated this garage in the sixties as Norval Shell!!!
- Is this the gas station that burned down in the 70s?
- No...the Shell station that burned was beside the United Church.
Arnie"s Autobody still sits on that site to this day. - thanks
- No...the Shell station that burned was beside the United Church.
- I showed pic to Mom - this is what she told me - MR and Mrs Sedore used to own it - then Joe Marchment took it over back in the 50's - one of the bay's used to be the beer joint for after hours lol so guess Hazen Sherry took it over from Joe in the 60's 🙂 little bit of history for this place )
- It was a shell when I worked there in the 70's.Roger Little ran it for awhile, also Ken Sproule.I can't remember who I worked for,but his family had a farm in Norval.
- I worked there too think there was trailers in the back
- I think his last name was Ella, from ella farms?
- That was Keith Ella, that ran that station I think ...
- This was my Grandparents when they lived in Norval Jacki Gray Philip is correct I was told as a kid there was cottages behind it they also rented.
- remember a cottage in the back near the river but, it was behind the next building on the west side. You may remember it as Kirk Kraft Studios? The cottage also operated a hair dressing salon back in the day.
- I stand corrected...
There were cottages behind the garage, back in the day
Must have been pre 1960's
- Sedore family owned supertest gas station in the 40’s. Sold to mccallum family i think. Burned inthe in the early 50’s, then became Whiterose then Shell. Yes there were cabins behind Supertest the Grasby lived there. I served my apprentice for mechanics there under barry Barry cleave and hazen sherry re Norwood Motors. Ken robinson
- · Lots of late night there making last minute repairs to the "Dictator" before going drag racing!!
- Lots of good memories of the old days. We are good , hope you and yours are too. May and ken
- I worked there from 1983 to the summer of 1986 (?) , (and his Acton Shell station)when Roger Little moved up the hill where the Esso is now to start Little's Trailer World without the pumps therefore didn't need gas jockeys. Great memories and job thru high school and a great man.
- Is Roger Little still around town?
- I remember Roger selling Scorpion Sleds there at his shell station in the early 70s. Also remember Ken Sproule working for Rogers at the other station where Arnie’s is now, when is burnt in the early 70s maybe even 69.
- My dad and his partner owned the garage in 63& 64, called Noval Auto Service Limited. Any information or pictures would helpful. Thanks. My dad was Reese Witzenhausen and his partner was Keith Vandervelde.
