-When did we stop celebrating Pioneer Days and why? It was lots of fun involving so many citizens and community groups.
-Not sure.. Use to love it cause it was always father's day weekend and I would get my dad something there.. they changed it to some kind of festival.. can't remember the name .. then it was Big Daddy to combine with the car show at Cedarvale and then it just stopped.. Wish they would bring it back. It was always a great weekend..
-I agree though it takes a lot of planning and volunteers. However, it's a great way to preserve the history of Georgetown. At one time this history was taught in school as part of the Social Studies program. So many new people have moved to Georgetown and know little of its past. This might encourage people to want to preserve the heritage of its buildings etc.
-Village Festival 1997 or so
-thx. Couldn’t remember it.
-I miss the Langedyks.
-I loved their craft store, took many classes there and still have patterns purchased there.
-I miss them too spent a lot of time in store and classes
-"Pioneer Days"
-I worker at John Boughton Jewellers back in the day ... was always a fun time dressing up in our long dresses and working out on the sidewalk cleaning jewellery .... memories
- Heard it wasn't appropriate to be called Pioneer Days.
- It wasn't that. The board at the time felt that the event had run it's course and that they wanted to draw new people to Downtown. The Village Festival coincided with the first Farmer's Market, and was (in it's time) VERY successful! It was cancelled the year they did reconstruction, and the new Board did not renew it post construction, the Big Daddy event was meant to be a draw to Halton Hills and had many partners - Town, both BIAs, charity breakfast and the Car Show. It never really had a spark - beyond the car show in my opinion.
-it seems everything is NOT appropiate to say, these days...
-How do we refer to those people who pioneered?
-Have no clue Loison. Think the powers that be just did not like it called Pioneer Days. No Beer Garden, Live Bands Etc.
-Leathertown festival in Acton is a big hit every year, something should be brought back to downtown Georgetown
-Yes it should <3
-Wouldn't be as much Fun with the Gibby Closed. IMO.
-Oh would be different!!....but others are there
-Think the beer Garden was not allowed on Main St. & they had to move it to the parking lot behind. Complaints about the music as well.
-Oh yes! I'll never forget working the floor at the Gibby on Pioneer Days. So many people and a lot of fun. Sure do miss them days. ❤️🍺🎶
-Loved the race track and model railway at the Langedyk's shop. Hung around there as a kid
-Great family! Still friends with them -I loved their hobby store !!!!
