-Drag strip between 5th and 6th line Limehouse????
-Not sure.. it's dirt and the trees and hill are confusing me
-Looks like the drag strip
-Could be Erin fair grounds
-Maybe the old race track on Hwy 25 south of Ospringe North of Acton!
-Too many trees I think
- Stock car races at the G'town fair grounds? They were a regular thing back in the 50's!!
- Bob Hyde and motorcycle racing too,
I even remember the name of one of those old race cars Bob,
“ The Ruptured Duck “…
-now too many people would be crying about excessive noise
-That is exactly what brought it to an end even that many years ago as housing got closer to the fair grounds!!
- And is the reason most tracks close as housing gets closer to them. Or the land just becomes too valuable.
-I know some of the guys had a circular track somewhere up around Erin I believe ! I think Richard Braisby bought our old Hudson to run it up there !
- It kinda looks like it could be the track at the Erin Fairgrounds where they do the demolition derby.
- that’s what I was thinking ....
- Is that the fair grounds?
-Looks like the fairgrounds
- Fairgrounds 4sure 👀
-demo derby at the fairgrounds
- Fair grounds maybe?
- It really does not look like fairgrounds
- I thought photo taken from grandstand
- I think that it is our fair grounds & i remember when they had demolition derbys in the evening at our fair, i was there. I think i remember Brian Hill maybe driving one & Claude Guinard as well.
-Acton High School parking lot?
- So. We’re really not sure where this is then. Lol.
-Demolition at the park
- my thoughts too by park public school
-It's definitely the fairgrounds beside Park Public School
-Definitely not Erin fairgrounds..there would be houses in the background..or you would see the hill and the credit river at the end
- I am almost positive that it is at the top end of the Gtown park which is where they had the demolition derbys
-To me it looks like it Isa 1/4 mile dirt track oval. All the cars are lined up ready for a start. Derbys I don't think start this way and the track area is not wide enough for a demolition derby.
- Must be a race..all going in pairs, in the same direction, counter clock wise.
-Sure looks like it Glenn. But yes Harry looks like to many trees, kind of remember open fields.
- Those look like cars
- It's the fairgrounds in Georgetown. I grew up on Charles St and my parents still live there (Brian and Sheila Hill)
-My dad use to drive in the demolition derby
- What year are the cars? It is in colour and the fairgrounds had baseball diamonds by the late sixties and the barn in the centre of the track, so I think that is not the fairgrounds
-Zooming in, not well focused, it appears the cars are from the fifty's. Old cars are used for derby's. There appears to be an announcer booth beside the van. The van and the car parked in the middle appear to be from the sixty's.
-There used to be a track on Hwy 25 going to Ospringe on the right back in the early 60s ? Plus I think there is to much bush for The park,
-I believe you are correct Cindy ! I think you nailed it !
-Thats what I said at the beginning!
-The tires in the ground are a clue. Where was a track with tires in the ground? Makes me think it was a race track not a park. Don't know.
-yeah me neither. It’s a mystery. Lol.
-That's Acton Speedway on 25
-Maybe the park?
-Yes it is the Acton Speedway!
- If you are referring to Ospringe, certainly not as I remember it. Too level and too many trees.
- I’m presto sure it’s ospringe tack 1/5 mile paved track it was down hill one uphill the other way Majuery’s raced there
-there’s still remnants visible as you can see it on the slope
- Can't remember there ever being a forest or a hill though. I do remember there being a drop off on the south side and east end (uphill) where numerous cars met their demise.
-Its the ball park in Gtown!
-It is not wide enough for the park as I lived there all my life and still there. Acton had a downhill slope going into corner 1 and an uphill slope going into corner 2 ( I started the races there)
-It was Brian that started the races not Sheila They did have races in the fairgrounds (60 to 65 years ago) There was a bandstand on the inside of the track where they had the start/finish line (where C diamond is today)
