- Every day on the way to Park school. Lots of childhood memories made. RIP to our soldiers....and thank you.
- wonderful memories of Remembrance Park and Park School.
- Loved playing at that place as a kid......
- Walked past this on the way to school everyday
- Walked past everyday and spent a lot of time there playing
- was the day when we went to school , the whole school would walk down to the park, and then back to school , was no day off, parent teacher day was at nite so no days off, now kids get the extra day off for remembrance day, long days gone to know what the meaning of it is any more for some kids how sad
- Kids are at school for the day and there are assemblies - at GDHS at least
- My kids are/were Park kids. The entire school always has, and still walks down and participates in the community service.
- Still prefer the water being there
- yes......playing in the ponds are such a great memory as well as the little water falls under the bridge!!
- Water became stagnant and swampy. Full of mosquitos.
- too funny, use to play in the water falls as well and then skate on the ponds in the winter!
- Looks bigger then it is now...
- Beautiful picture
- Thanks to our favourite Aussie. Al Darby for the picture.
- Think it was part of the old radial track
- 39 years ago today Bernie and I got our wedding pictures taken there
- mine was three yrs earlier. Did the still do the boys together and the girls in another picture?
- 150 or so years ago my grade 8 grad pic was taken there....was the 100th and last grade 8 at Chapel Street......hee hee hee not that many years ago but feels like it!!!!......1968
- Is that gone now?
- As much as we enjoyed the park as it was then, I believe we have the most beautiful Remembrance Park anywhere now.🇨🇦
- I haven't been home much over the years but was coming down a few years ago while my Mom was in the hospital before she passed away so was by the park and did notice a big difference.....too bad they could not have kept the old bridge in place even without the water just for nostalgia reasons....
- But yes they did do a real great job on the rebuild,,,,hats off to all the people that were involved in designing this.....
- Pic taken on that same bridge for my aunts wedding
- I think alot of wedding pics were taken there. (Including my sisters
- Thanks for sharing !
- Very nice
- Made sure I was there every year, remember it well
- When I was young the cenotaph was where Guelph and Main Sts split.
- lived across the road for a couple of years when it was there at 7 Guelph Street when I was a teenager.....Mr Todd lived on the other side where the Cenotaph was
- That brings back some memories. TY.
- I used to catch tadpoles there as a kid! I loved that bridge!
- When I joined the Navy in 1966 I came home for a visit on Henry St., and was the November 11 service at the Remembrance Park. I marched in my Naval uniform. I couldn't have been more proud of my country and had tears rolling down my face. It was a very emotional time. Thank you Georgetown. I have never missed a Remembrance Day.
- When i was in the Georgetown Girls Pipe Band in late 60's and early 70's we always played in Remembrance Day parades. A real honour. When cenotaph was at old location, my brother John Cummins was one of the Lorne Scouts who stood guard.
- Awe that bridge is beautiful why did they remove it?
- No stream to go over maybe.
- Towards the end, the bridge was in a sad state of affairs. It was the oddest structure; even as a kid I couldn't understand why it wasn't planked but actual whole logs (small ones). The water level in the ponds also saw a significant decline.
- Because it was a swamp across the road. As development of homes continued near it...the water began to dry out
- Exactly. I grew up on Henry St so went by it every day to Park School and played there. There were trout under the bridge. We would run across the ice in winter (of course lol) and jump on the ice trying to crack it so the next person wouldn't try to cross. The Ice Queen/King game. So scary now I think about it. The things we did as kids back then! So sad to see it filled in.
- Many friends wedding photos were taken there. <3
- Loved that park... rremember it well after 50 years
- Think I crossed that bridge a thousand times when I was a kid!
- Wedding pictures were taken in Remembrance Park
- Graduation pics, school pics...everyone went there.
- I would see the tanks and wonder what the heck war was all about.
- They were (and are) field guns (artillery pieces) there but no tanks.
- right. The big field guns.
- My siblings and I would always sit on them and attack things with them
- Didn't some parts move and then they welded them for safety or maybe rust and layers of paint took over?
- That bridge was built by Mr. Tom Warnes of Churchill Cres. and was always the pride of Remembrance Park....as lovely as the Park is now ...the bridge is surely missing!
- Was he an engineer?
- No, A Caretaker
- I didn't know that. I remember Mr. Warnes well. If I remember correctly I believe my dad said that Mr. Warnes was the caretaker at Chapel St. School (aka Georgetown Public School) when he was a student there. I heard that he also had an amazing singing voice. In later years he was the caretaker at St. John's United Church
- The Park Was Named By Roger Smith ( Won In A Contest )
- My parents had their wedding pictures done there in 1979 on that bridge
- That's the way I remember it as a little kid. Loved that bridge and playing on the ice.
- We have a picture from our wedding standing on this bridge
- remember
- when it was at Main St and Hwy 7
- Skating in the winter...boys on the upper pond playing shinny, girls faux figure skating on the lower pond- avoiding the squishy parts of the ice. Eating chips sitting on the supports under the bridge in the summer... and Remembrance Day ceremonies as a Girl Guide. Sad to hear the bridge is no longer there.
