- First Broken wrist roller blading.
- The girl almost in the middle of this photo looks like Lynn Crocker ...the pretty little girl with the dark pony tail.... does anyone know ?
- funny and I thought she looked like Andrea Chaplin. But maybe it is Lynn.
- I am not sure ! It it looks a lot like her, pretty, pretty girl ! And the guy in the top right, blonde guy, I thought looked a lot like John Steringa !
- that right it could be him. Wish we knew
- Do you remember when John and Lynn Crocker were engaged ?
- It is not Lynn.
- do you think it’s Andy? The girl off to the right looks like Vicky Chappel to me.
- I don't think it's either, but what do I know! 😊
- Front row is Cathy Richardson, Suzanne Landry and Peggy Tyler.
- my sister in law! My word I don’t see it. Peg isn’t on fb, but I’ll send her the picture
- which one is supposed to be Peggy? I don't see any resemblance
- spoke to Peggy, she says the girl is a Peggy Taylor, who lived on King street. I’ve kept a copy Of the pic because Suzanne lives here in Guelph, I might run into her and I’ll see her sister in January, she will get a kick out if it.
- I worked at the booth at the pool and saved my money to buy my roller skates. I loved roller skating.
- They used to play 🎶 "Green Eyed Lady " 🎶 by Sugarloaf once an Hour ! Still my favorite song that always brings back good old memories ! Dan 💎🎸
- I clearly remember the sound of wheels.....not really audible when just casually skating around the rink.....but when either of two upbeat tunes were played on the house system.... Satisfaction, and California Sun...(Rivieras, 1964)... .....the whole arena floor was like a huge electric motor...a dynamo.....spooling up to high speed.....you could hear the sound of the skate wheels increase as we all went into top gear.... Anytime I hear either of those tunes 50+ years later, I always think about roller skating at Memorial. I loved going there Thursday, Friday, and especially Sat. when the Deadbeats would play on the centre stage. Dave Booth singing, looking like Buddy Holly. I used to skate with my future wife, Joy, and would get ticked when Kent Robinson would cut in. On Saturday nights, it seemed the whole high school was at the arena.....as easy place to socialize and meet girls. Can still see Alister Blair, his skates not tied to the top eyelets, the skate tongue fashionably hanging out towards the toe, yet he could make his skates fly in all directions and still maintain control. I'd tuck in behind him and try to copy his moves. By the time the evening was over, I'd have a blister on the inside of my right arch, no matter what socks I wore....but would be back there the next night...with the blister popped, a bandage over it. In that pic, I see Brad Bennett on the far right. Looks like Andrea in centre. That does look like Rob Saxe. And the fellow on the left facially looks like a small Pete Laval.....but yes, likely Alex. Another guy looks like Mike Pratt, just behind perhaps Tom Quinn in the black glasses. Skating at Memorial became more technical when groups from out of town would arrive, especially a half dozen superb skaters from Kitchener's Bingeman Park. Those skaters had moves none of us had seen before. We went up to Bingeman a few times and saw them 'couples skating/dancing', and it changed my attitude from hotdogging to skating as couples on slow numbers. Also went once to the big hardwood floor skate place in Toronto....the Terrace....most skaters there danced in couples. There I learned the format..the figure eight, the outside turn going into the corner, the inside turn leading to the next corner turn. I can't recall when roller skating stopped at Memorial, but I continued into my twenties at The Bramalea arena, 1967-69.
- Do you think the pretty dark haired girl with the ponytail could be Lynn Crocker ?
- I remember very well pretty dark haired Lynn Crocker.....had a secret crush on her......she was fairly tall.....but I think that is Andrea.....Pauline Armitage used to skate a lot, but I don't recognize her from that photo. And I think I am wrong about Tom Quinn.
- to me the girl ID'ed as Pauline I think was is Peggy Taylor she lived on King Street :)
- I think the boy with the glasses towards the back looks like Bob Smith.
- Wow yea I remember roller skating at the arena loved it
- That’s the year I started roller skating. And Im pretty sure that’s Lynn Crocker. She was my neighbour I had it bad for her. Haha. I was 9.
