-This church was a Catholic mission connected to Acton parish. My grandfather, Martin Cummins dug the basement in early 1900's with Jim Boyle. He also played the organ. I was baptized and had First Communion here. I watched the church on Maple Avenue built outside my classroom window at Holy Cross school. The church became Sacre Coeur after the Holy Cross congregation moved to Maple Avenue. The Rectory was torn down after this. A beautiful church with many memories. My mom was sacristan taking care of the linens and flowers. She always ordered the flowers from Pierces greenhouse.
-Lots of memories for me too. Wolf cubs in the basement. Altar boy upstairs.
-I had Brownies and Girl Guides there. No altar girls in my day.
-Was baptized there, married there and had my children baptized there
Interesting that this church ( built in 1885) still stands and serves. Yet the church that was built to replace it (in 1965) has been torn down. 😢
-Very sad really. The church on Maple Avenue was was very modern when It was built. Instead of a typical cross shape for a church it wad built to resemble a tabernacle. It too was an architectural treasure, never mind the home if many memories.
-Has the building been deemed a heritage building?
- Sacre Coeur, formerly Holy Cross, on Guelph Street.
-My kids were baptized there by Père Gionet.
-I was an altar girl in this church ⛪
-I hope they keep an eye on that belfry for cracks/erosion .. I'd hate for that stone to come down on someone's head .. Those new condos coming behind the church could change the wind currents and create a problem ..
-Many memories for both sides of my French families. My parents were married there. My brother & I were baptized, had our first communion and our confirmations there. Both our girls were also baptized in this church. 3 generations of memories.
-i remember going there when it was holy cross before they built the one on maple below the school in 66
-I sang in the choir there around 1960 .. and was confirmed there around 62 ..
