-My dad Gord Bassett taught there for many years
-I had your Dad as a teacher. One of the best teachers I've ever had. :)

-Your dad was the epitome of what a great teacher should be.
-Great teacher, I had him as well 🙂
-Have to agree, he was a great teacher.

- ^^^Yes. Anyone out of line he used pure intimidation to break them. Now a days that wouldn't fly....
-Thank you for your wonderful comments about my dad.
-Had Gord Basset in grade 8, kept the problem kids, both boys and girls in line. Started from day one when all those getting into their desks from the wrong side got sent to the hall for a bit of a tune up LOL!
Loved this guy, great History Teacher!!
-I had Mr. Bassett for history in 69/70 and 70/71. Always looked forward to his classes, a great teacher alright!
-He was an amazing teacher, most kids never appreciated till much later how much he would influence their lives. Coming into Stewartown you where alway told that he was the teacher NOT to get - totally wrong!
He is the reason when my grade 8 daughter was going over a US map marking on the state capitals I was able to correct the ones she had wrong from memory.
-Great guy but he taught my 2 older sisters and 3 older brothers, I was doomed
-Him and I butted heads all the time because I just could never understand math. I remember him becoming so mad at a classmate he smashed the ruler off one of the desks and shards were flying all over the classroom! Grade 8 yearbooks came out and I made sure he was the FIRST person to sign my yearbook. At the end of signing it he wrote “practice your math!!”
He left a very strong imprint on me. I am still horrible at math but I constantly think of him when numbers come up!
-try being his daughter. In high school!
-I had Mr. Bassett for grade 8 history as well. I remember him taking the class on a field trip to a pioneer village of sorts - think maybe the Milton area? I remember him being a fair and reasonable teacher and committed to the success of his students. He demanded and had the respect of his class. To this day, I hear his name come up from time to time in conversation and that’s going back 50 years (ouch)!
-And ur mom was our Avon lady for many years!
-We were all terrified of him! But he was a great teacher ❤️1
-I loved your Dad as a neighbour and a teacher
-your Father was my grade 8 teacher, he was wonderful. Yes he did control the little shits that needed it, nothing out of the ordinary for the time. I heard he passed away, hugs to your family
-I was there for one year, Grade 8 1969-70, when I got caught in the middle of Park School transitioning from a K to Grade 8 to a K to Grade 6 school. I wasn't too happy about it at the time but overall it was a good experience.
-I loved SSPS... it was, academically, the best thing to happen for me.
-We loved the fact that you were there too..😘😘😎
-I had him as well great guy
-Mr. Bassett was the best!
-My brother had him as well. It was a great school then. Both my boys went there it is still a great school. Teachers past and present are awesome! Can't forget about Mr. Gardner, Mr. Denny either. Sorry can't remember all the teachers back then too early in the morning lol.
-Hated that School. Classes were way, way to big and i learned nothing
-Pretty sure you mean Centennial there 🤣🤣🤣
-There was a great bunch of teachers and friendships made there
-Lou Zander and the dreaded “hang five”... On the up side, that punishment is the reason I do binomial probability distributions so easily. 🤣

-All the cool kids went to Stewarttown!
-This is soooo true... and the coolest ones were your friends!
-I can honestly brag to my kids that I walked uphill both ways to School in the snow.

-Great years Mr. Zander was cool and liked Mr. Basset who taught Larry, myself and my son Jason.
-I attended this school for 6-weeks! We moved to G'town in May of 1981... I was in 8th grade and didn't know anyone. I had fun for those 6-weeks! Then start GDHS (still really not knowing anyone!)

-My mum (Audrey Leggett) was the school secretary there from the late 60s to the mid 70s. Two other teachers there were Mr Brown the gym teacher, hard but fair and his wife Mrs Brown the music teacher. Our school choir even cut a record one year we were there!
-I remember that record and your mum
-I remember that, my parents didn’t buy a copy but I wonder if anyone we know has a copy? Likely Dave McDonald whom I have come to think of as the Yoda of all things Georgetown, LOL.
-I would love a copy - what was the song?
-I think we did an entire album. It was our Christmas pageant.
-Okay I remember doing a choir record and the song was the one all the schools competed with. Shenandoah or something like that. My house bought it but who knows where it is now.

-Mr Ridley passed away about 10 or12 years ago.
-He was the Gym teacher right? Had a spinal surgery like a rod in his back or something? If it's the same guy, he was a good man, taught me football. When I was teaching my kids 'flea-flickers, and button hooks' his lessons flooded my mind. This fellow and Mr. Ogden (math) (also a woman who taught home economics/English?) were the only competent teachers imho.
-I had Mr Cosgrove for home room in grade 8 .He was good.
-I want to say I attended 1983 and '84. Grade 7 and 8 when it was a middle school.

-yes he was and used to tell us great stories as well as an awesome gym teacher
-He was a great guy, and seemed to have the 'inside' story on a lot of topics. I haven't thought of him for decades, but the news of his passing kinda bothered me. He was the rare type of teacher who genuinely cared about his job, and us kids, and imparting knowledge onto us. A really nice guy, I count myself fortunate to have had him as a teacher. RIP Mr. Ridley. 😥

-We lived in the old Lawson house across the creek from the mill!!
-Jim Ridley was my favorite teacher of all time. McDonald and Bassett were Bullies that abused there power. Complete douches
-Had both Ridley and Bassett. Correct assessment. Fond memories for sure
-I just want to point out that Mr. Bassett’s daughter is on here and he passed away fairly recently (from my memory) let’s try to be more sensitive about that. 🙂
-Mr Gardiner was pretty much the same.
-Anyone remember the doogy shake
-I do...The only human being who walked around town at a 45 degree forward slant. I spent a lot (like too much) time in his office. He once threatened me with the strap...and he produced it! He meant it!
-Mr McDonald passed away this past year as well.
-I'm sorry to learn of his passing, but recall laughing my ass off when one of us kids got stuck knee deep in the spring mud pit near the wood lot, and Mr. MacDonald (aka Doogie) had to go in to rescue the kid. Hilarious, planks of wood which sank, became slippery and in the muck he went, both feet shin deep! The kid lost his boot (it came off as Doogie was pulling him out) He (MacDonald) was so frustrated, it was awesome! Hahahaaha. I swear I spent 25% of my recess time marching around behind him (as punishment?)
-Grade 3 or 4 I witnessed a female teacher brake a yard stick over a child's head funny at the time but not at all now. We hide the past to are own expense

-Poor miss Mackey my grade 7 class drove her nuts but only 2 unruly buggers really

-When I was there HE and homeroom
-Miss Mackey would be happy to know that whenever I sew, I still pin ”the middle, the middle of the middle, and the middle of the middle of the middle.”
-Really. She must be getting up there.
-Hahaha... I thought that too, until I bumped into her and realized she was just a kid herself when she was teaching us (Miss vandeValk was teaching in her teens/early 20s).
-wow. So she's about 10 years older than us.
-if you were with me at SSPS, she’s more likely to be as little as 8 years older. She still looks great.
-I was there in 1973/74
-I was there in 69, so she’s likely 12-15 years older than you.
-Did miss Mackey work at gdhs as well later ?
-My wife, Joy, taught at Stewarttown for 17 years, from 1973, first in a homeroom, and finishing as the librarian. She loved that school. I remember many of the teachers and lots of staff parties. -I had your Dad as a teacher. One of the best teachers I've ever had. :)

-I went to school in Stewarttown in the 60s I remember Miss Whitmee, and my grandfather went to the old one room school which turn into Briggs Upholstery shop
-Our farm was right next door My Dad sold the property to the school board for the school to be built
-Did he have that gorgeous Clydesdale?
-No my Father had a small Dairy Farm and the Allis Chalmers dealership it was called Reid Equipment and Supplies
-Mr Ridley kicked me out of class in Grade 8 for chewing gum. Wow have times changed!
-Was so excited to go to Stewarttown and get away from my Principal Mr McDonald! Ya no, Doogie followed me ☹️

-Poor miss Mackey my grade 7 class drove her nuts but only 2 unruly buggers really
-did you take Home Ec? that's what she taught
In '75 I started deejaying dances there.....always the best participation rate of any of the schools I played!
-Loved the closing song at the dances..Thank God I'm a Country Boy 😊

-I had Mrs. Smallwood in grade 8. She was one of my favourite teachers. Lovely lady.
-I think what makes this school so special even after all these years are the teachers and staff. They all give a dam! Yes ! The teachers and students all have respect for each other! There I said it. Most schools are losing this.
