-I wonder how many people have jumped from it.
-You can't jump from from the trestle and expect to talk about it. The river's only a few feet deep there if I remember correctly.
-No one has intentionally and without duress jumped from that trestle that I'm aware of.
-Crossed it Once and only once..
-That's it, crossed it many of times With Dick Popiel He lived beside treasel..
-I think it was a right of passage thing. I've also crossed in once (at least?)
-yep, crossed it a few times, raced the train a time or two as well
-ha ha ha yes trains sneak up on ya!! You can't hear them. Oh ya run
-crazy buggers we were lol
-Never raced a train, but there was a phantom train in my mind when I was crossing it, that I can tell you! Lol. There were two platforms for a step out if you were to make it to them, I was focused on them thinking, "if a train does come, just how quickly can I scramble to that platform?" 'cause, jumping isn't much of an option! :)
-nope, no option at all, lol
-platforms are to close You feel vibration when train coming RUN LIKE HELL
-Some of the trains as they went through Georgetown were only traveling as fast as walking pace 😉, others were traveling at a very good clip. As a kid I could never wrap my head around any rhyme or reason for this? Load, cargo, length of the train, didn't seem to dictate the speed.
-Eddy Wylie died there back in the 50,s can't not remember exactly what happened maybe someone else will remember
-yes you are right think he was with Bert Henderson train came and he couldn't get off Sad
-Eddie and other young guys had been drinking when the train approached he did not make it off the trellis
-Bill Spence was with him to
-yes you are right and my Dad witnessed Eddy's death . It was such a sad sad day .
-was in grade 8 at Wrigglesworth School with them both
-Ken Connolly was killed by a train when he was on the tressle.
-Was a sad time for Georgetown
-Yes Ken was in my class and we used to play cheaters with the trains....Ken went by himself that day not sure why....very sad
-his cousin Jack Stuffcoat was with him, I never went that day
- Jackie Stuffco (no relation to Kenny) were hiking, just about cleared the tressle (east side), Jack jumped onto the rocks and Ken tried to outrun it. Engineer got in trouble for stopping the train on the bridge.
-Jack was wearing running shoes and Kenny was wearing moccasins
-Remember Jack he lived beside Perkins? Don't think he still with us Stan?? Tony Perkins ??? Jack hung out with Kim??
-Jack is still with us he is with Linda Bowers
-New Kenny Connolly from Normandy Blvd. Also remember that day..
-My Wife Joyce’s brother Bill Schofield was good friends with Kenny..
-We didn't have grief councillors in those days when we lost a neighbour or a classmate.
-Those times were different!!!
-We thought we didn't. Tuff it up was the rule of the day.
-think we did it a couple of times then walked into Norval and home Crazy kids .

-Sad day Lynn Wylie ,way to young to die but at 17 none of us would have thought of dying
-Crossed that several times. Almost got caught with a train coming
-My brothers and sisters and myself crossed it many times with our dad . I was scared but I remember my dad telling me not to look down just look straight ahead and that worked for me !!
-Dont remember the boys name but if i remember properly he was a member of my cub pack at St. John's United Church in the mid 1960"s. The story I remember was that he and a friend had a lost an arrow the week before and had gone back to look for it!
-Even crossing in a train was scary enough the first time...
-Is that like the Iron Bridge?
-Yes it is !!
-Many. Many. MANY good nights here lol
-It has a cousin and Islington and Steeles
-When we were kids we used to cross it, some of my silly friends used to stay on the side box while the train crossed
-We used to camp under it as well
-We used to swim under it . That was our swimming hole when we didn't go to Terra Cotta !!
-I'm not going to lie we crossed that often as kids and now reading these comments I realize how stupid it was. My Dad caught us up there once almost killed us!!! Now I know why
-One of my first story assignments, when I started at the Herald, was to do a story on the dump and the leachate leaking into the river.
-Was beautiful back then
-Scared ourselves silly crossing this bridge when we were kids.
