-Such an iconic structure. Many memories of returning from visiting grandparents in Dundas, late at night, through open fields, approaching what is now 'Georgetown South' (SIGH) and there was this tower rising above the treetops in the distance, its underside lighted by the streets of Georgetown. To me it was a beacon. As a young child it meant, "You are nearly home."
-I watched the tower being built as I lived down the street on Rexway. It was 1967.
-just had both these addresses come up in some work I'm doing... 15 & 29 ...
-Feel the same way .. when we would go up north to visit the in laws - coming home across mayfield it was the first thing I would see and look for to say " you're almost home!"
-lol as kids the first to spot the tower got a quarter on our way home.
-I climbed the old tower a couple of times to paint over some graffiti that someone put on the side of the tower. We cut about 25 ft of the ladder and they still got up there. The one time they made a rope ladder that was very well made.....
-Remember, I love Patsy?? Someone painted that on the tower. I just happened to be going out with a Patsy at that time. Caused me a little grief!! Lol
-Ya right Steve lol...always figured you were like McGiver and his rope skills 😁
-I seem to remember some one painted " I LOVE PAT " on it .
-That is true!! We used to tease my dad for painting that because my mom was Pat... my dad never denied it
-that was one of the politest ones.....lol
-I remember someone painted "I love Maureen" or something similar and my Dad thought it was for me lol. I didn't think so. Always wondered about it.
-I remember someone put “ Bitch City “ on the side of the tower....I was with another guy and we climbed up the tower and I thought he brought up the paint in a bucket up with him but he did not so we flipped to see who had to go down and fetch the paint.....oh and I lost....it was hard on you arms climbing up there......
-I remember Bitch City, That one got painted over in record time.
-didn’t that one make it in the paper?
-I watched this being built from my classroom window at Holy Cross school.
-I watched this being built from my classroom window at Centennial School.
-Does the tank near the Sands provide the extra pressure to push water into Norval?
- it regulates the pressure in Norval......
-Tanks - I was close - lol. When did Norval get town water?
-I am not sure ...I started working for the Region of Halton in 1975 and I am not sure it was there then but I think it was.....old age setting in...lol
-It happens to the best of us. I don't remember seeing it that early. I do remember water came to Norval before the tank went in because of well issues for the residents. Isn't there a pumping station by Silver Creek too?
-I remember Someone always going up there and writing I love Patty ? Or something to that effect
-I remember there was a button you could push under the tower and it would release so much water. It was probably used for the works Dept.
-there was never a button but there was a control valve that you could open to empty the tower.....
-Oh thank you for clarifying that Pete. It was a memory of at least 30 years ago.
-All of NorCal didn’t have town water because I workd at the shell and we wer still on well
