-Worked there when it first opened Mrs Brock was the supervisor over the cashiers
-that pic brought back some memories. We lived on Raylawn Crescent growing up, so I knew every aspect of this little strip mall inside and out. So many great memories seeing it again like that.
-This brings back memories. My dad was the meat dept manager at Loblaws from sometime in the early 60's until we moved to Ottawa in 1972. We lived on Gower Court, we shopped at the Delrex plaza all the time.
-we had a family friend that also work in the meat department at Loblaws. Her name was Jackie and she was married to a man by the name of Tom. I can't for the life of me remember their last names . Would
-Yes the name Jackie from Loblaws is very familiar, can't remember their last name either though.
-She was a red headed lady (short hair and darkish red), rather thin and probably in her mid to late thirties. She worked there for quite a few years right around that time.
-I remember her. I used to stop by and shake my dad down for some money to go the the smoke shop 😉
-I used to live at that place. Remember the record shop and the Greek restaurant. Fries with gravy and cherry cokes and watching the guys cruise by in those fabulous old cars 😆
-I used to spend my allowance at the G&S shop there, my sister and I pooled our resources and bought Tom Jones greatest hits. lol.
-I bought a black and white Polaroid camera from Zellers when it was there, that thing set me back $12.95! Lol My sister and I used to go the the Zellers skillet restaurant there too. Good times.
-Picking up a CHUM chart!
-I also worked there as a cashier while going to highschool when it first opened. Thought I was rich. .75 cents an hour.
The original Loblaws store had a snack bar on one side, I remember getting an orange twist and a root beer there when I was a kid. From what I heard the original store had a problem with the windows being so big and letting too much sunlight in. When they renovated and added on in the 70s they made the windows much smaller.
-I remember the snack bar, Dave. We always stopped in for an orange pop when we were shopping.
-way back when, we could see the loblaws sign lit up at night from our bedroom...we always joked when one of the lights burnt out, giving Loblaws many new names
-Hazel Marshall ran the snackbar.
-Its funny everyone calls it Loblaws, in actual fact was it not just called Loblaw?
-The sign on the original store says "Loblaws"
-You are right Susan, I stand corrected...
-And the owner of Loblaws was Bob, Bob Loblaws!
-So it was Loblaws's....Got it---I feel so much better now.
-I lived right behind it on 14 Sargent.
-Remember the music playing and all the magazines to sit and look at in the Loblaws store.
-Loblaws opened a Ziggy's delicatessen in thr 70's I believe.... I worked in the bakery there for a while. The aroma of fresh baked goods... Mmmm.
-worked at Loblaw in 1962-63, my manager was Harry, an absolute tyrant
-There used to be a lunch counter in the 60's. I don't know if it was Loblaws then.
-I lived at 56 Sargent Road and used to go to the smoke shop with .25 allowance and got a bag of candies once a week
