-I'd have been about 13 or 14, and went in with a few dollars in my pocket. I asked the guy at the counter if they sold onion rings. (the fish and chip shop is down the street, but I digress...) The guy looks at me and with broken English says "What? Who rings? Yea, yea, yea...we sell onion." I say "rings...you know fried onion rings?" He says "Yea, fried onion...you want a plate?" "Sure, and a soda" I said. 10 minutes later I was served a heaping pile of fried onion on a plate(like 2 or 3 whole onions worth)...with a soda!? I laughed, and he was genuinely confused as to why I found the food so funny. 😎 True story.
-Still go there
-The best Chinese food ever. Live out of town now but still look forward to having Yongs when we visit G’town. Was there 2 weeks ago and Lawrence served us. He told us he was retiring the next day. He was the best. Never wrote anything down and always got the order right. He was retiring to concentrate on babysitting his grandchildren in Oakville. He was a staple at Yongs. He will be greatly missed. And oh, we hadn’t been in a long time but the food was still excellent!
-Wish i had known that he was retiring, i would have taken him a gift.
-He was awesome, Paul and I went there often when Paul was young, we moved to Milton and it was 20 years since I had been there. I sat down and Lawrence came over to serve me and ask the Usual Don and he rimmed off what we would usually order, wow. I wish him the best and thank him :)
